Heroes Summer Reading Project

1. Book Selection Select and read a book that is related to the theme of Heroes. You can read any genre as long as you can identify a hero within the story. For example: you might choose to read a mystery where the detective is a hero because he or she solves the mystery. you might choose to read historical fiction where the main character becomes a hero within the historical events and context of the story. you might choose to read a biography about someone who has a heroic career such as a firefighter or scientist working to solve an important issue. The choice of text is entirely up to you, the reader. Be sure the text is a just right book for you. When you have chosen your book, please log on to www.edmodo.com using your user name and password. Use the following group code to join our group entitled Summer Reading Project. Group Code: fcgrj

Within the group you will find Summer Reading Selections. Post the title of the book you have chosen and a brief explanation of why you made this choice. Check back often to see what other students are reading and to reply to each other.

2. Discussion Questions After you have completed reading your self-selected book, log on to Edmodo.com using your user name and password. Here you will find groups entitled Discussion Question #1, Discussion Question #2, and Discussion Question #3. You will need to answer each question using evidence from the text and your own voice to explain your thinking. You will also need to reply to at least two other people in each question group. Discussion Question #1 Describe an event from the text where the main character acts heroically. Be sure to explain why you think this event was heroic.
