Reading Log #3 Elizabeth was now most heartily sorry that she had, from the distress of the moment, been led to make Mr. Darcy acquainted with their fears for her sister, for since her marriage would so shortly give the proper termination to the elopement, they might hope to conceal its unfavorable beginning from all those who were not immediately on the spot (231).

Originally in the story, Wickham told Elizabeth false stories about Darcy being a mean person, explaining how he didn't allow Wickham to inherit the fortune which Darcy's grandfather had left him. Therefore Elizabeth built an initial dislike of Darcy due to her prejudice and misjudgment of Darcy's character. However as this misunderstanding cleared, Elizabeth finally began to understand the true character of Darcy and hence this dislike turned into a liking for Darcy. In this scene this feeling is finally introduced and that is important because it shows the first signs of an emotional turnaround for one of the characters. In fact, Elizabeth realizes that her opinion of Darcy has changed so completely that if he was to propose to her for a second time, she would accept his offer. Although she believes this, she still recognizes the fact that such a marriage would never work out due to the recent inclusion of Wickham to the Bennet family. Elizabeth unfortunately expects Darcey to distance himself from her now that Wickham will be joining the Bennet family. This sad realization is important because she imagines that Darcey and her would have been perfect together, each capable of improving the other. While Lydia and Wickham reinforce each others bad qualities, Elizabeth and Darcy would have complemented each other. Elizabeths realization of this shows that she has really changed but seems to continue on the trend of too little too late. Darcey experienced the same too little too
