CvRSvS: LATIN III

COURSE OBJECTIVE

Latin III is an Honors course and is a primer for AP Catullus/Ovid. All essential
Latin grammar will be covered within the first semester. The class will analyze the
literature and history of the Late Republic and Early Empire, with an emphasis on selected
authors such as Catullus, Caesar, Cicero, Ovid, and most especially, Pliny the Younger.
Students who take this class should have the basis for Latin grammar (Latin I and II) firmly
behind them. Upon the 2nd semester, the class will start the AP syllabus with the poet Ovid.
In Latin III the Ecce Romani series is used only for reference. The majority of new
grammar will come from the instruction, so TAKE GOOD NOTES.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

I. Required materials: a standard, 3-ring binder (at least 1”) divided thusly:

Part 1, Assignments
Part 2, Tests

II. A Composition Book for notes, to be picked up regularly.

You must also bring index cards, paper, pencils, two different colored pens, and a dry erase marker @ all
times.

GRADING

I. Homework (30%): Based on a ten point scale, some homework/classwork will be worth
more.

II. Participation/Conduct (10%): Participation and classroom conduct will be closely

monitored by the teacher throughout the 9-weeks.

III. Tests ( 50%): There will be a test at the conclusion of each subject matter.

IV. Project (10%): There will be one project based off of the material covered that 9-weeks.
