Artifact 2A: Strategy Demonstration, Fluency Prezi NBPTS Standards- Proposition 2 Standard: Teachers Know The Subjects They

Teach and How to Teach Those Subjects. Rationale: I chose to include this prezi strategy demonstration that I created which centers around the different ways in which teachers can use readers theater, repeated readings and poetry instruction as direct interventions in order to increase uency levels and see uency growth/gains with their students. Being a uent reader has proven time and time again to directly affect student comprehension and reading enjoyment and thus should be a focus of literacy instruction. Reection: The uency factor of literacy development has proven to become a subject in which I am extremely passionate about and much of my focus throughout my graduate studies have been centered around uency instruction. I believe that one of the primary goals of reading instruction should be that of enhancing uency so that students can become efcient problem solvers and hold on to the meaning of a text. In my own classroom, I have seen children read a passage with a high accuracy level, but not meet the required oral reading time thus putting them back a level as measured by the Daily Reading Assessment (DRA). From these experiences, I have made uency instruction a very high priority in my second grade classroom and I have witnessed wonderful gains and increased levels of enjoyment.
