First of all, I wanted to say that it was great to be able to sit down with all of you at conference time and discuss all of the great things that your second grader is doing! We are gearing up to enter our AFRICA global studies unit. Right after vacation we will be beginning our study.

Whats Happening in Second Grade?

The children will each be choosing an African animal and will be writing nonfiction reports. We will also be reading many African legend and folk tales. The children always seem to enjoy this genre of books!

In Math: We have started a new Investigations unit this month. The focus of this unit will include working with categorical data, surveying and gathering data, as well as representing data in different forms (charts, tables, various graphs). We will also continue to constantly review our story problems and number combinations.
