Whats Happening in June?

DATES TO REMEMBER: JUNE 1- FIELD TRIP JUNE 6- Spring Concert 6pm JUNE 12-Field Day JUNE 13-LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
June is denitely a BUSY month as the school year comes to an end. First of all I just wanted to extend a big THANK YOU for all of the support at home establishing our end of the year reading incentive program. The kids really enjoy earning their 20 minutes of outside play time on Fridays by reading each night of the week. Thank you for being so diligent about signing the reading forms and encouraging reading at home! We have wrapped up our AFRICA global studies unit and nished writing our African animal reports! They are displayed in the 2nd grade hallway for all to enjoy. The kids did an amazing job and I am very impressed with their growth in writing this year. We also raised enough money in our grade 2 penny drive to purchase a goat and a ock of chicks for an African family in need. The kids were so proud of this accomplishment and really felt how awesome it is to help others!!! Thank you for all of the donations from home to contribute to their efforts! We are now beginning our POND unit of study as we gear up for the Fields Pond eld trip on Friday, JUNE 1st. Before we go on our trip, we are having an expert from Fields Pond come into our classroom to do some hands-on activities. After our trip, they will be joining us again to wrap everything all up. Bring a bagged lunch, dress for the day (we go regardless of sun, rain and bugs :), bug spray and sunscreen needs to be applied before school, we will be leaving the school at 8:30 AM and coming back by 1:30 ish. In Math we have begun our unit on FRACTIONS. The kids are really enjoying making fraction ags and understanding halves, thirds, and quarters as parts of a whole and parts of a group.

Just a few eld trip reminders:

My deepest appreciation for making this such an amazing school year. You have AWESOME children and it has been my pleasure to have the opportunity to learn and grow with them this year. I am grateful to have been a part of their childhood. Have a wonderful summer!!RachaelSomes
