Nursing Information System (NIS)

are computer systems that manage clinical data from a variety of healthcare environments, and made available in a timely and orderly fashion to aid nurses in improving patient care helps in determining diagnoses, preparing and implementing of nursing-care plan, and evaluating the care provided support nursing management functions such as determining the need for nursing resources, including scheduling of personnel who have the appropriate level of education, training, or skill to effectively provide care given specific situations of patient condition.

is a specialty that integrates nursing science,

computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, and knowledge in nursing practice
facilitates the integration of data, information, and

knowledge to support patients, nurses, and other providers in their decision making in all roles and settings

This support is accomplished through the use of information structures, information processes, and information technology.

Integrating the different systems above, we can say that nursing informatics is the multidisciplinary scientific endeavor of processing of data into information, data managing, analyzing, reporting, make knowledge-based decisions and intermediary for patient care, and use this special knowledge in order to enhance the quality of service and professional practice.
