Abstract
In this paper we examine the mathematical content of Aristarchus work.
The important and innovative methods existing in his work made him
known as the mathematician of his time.
Unfortunately, we are not in position to know all about the mathematical
content of his work, since the majority of it has not been preserved.
However, his work on the sizes and distances of the Sun and Moon
renders Aristarchus as a great mathematician and is considered to be the
first of mathematical Astronomy.
