    Indications: Short term tx gastric ulcers; tx of hypersecretory conditions; prophylaxis of stress induced ulcers; tx of erosive gastroesophageal reflux; relief of symptoms of heartburn and acid indigestion. MOA: Stops actions of histamine at H2 receptor sites of the stomach, inhibiting gastric acid Click to edit Master subtitle style secretion and total pepsin output. SE: Diarrhea, constipation, headache, somnolence, confusion , cardiac arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, impotence, gynecomastia, rash. Nursing Implications: Administer with or before meals and at bedtime. Prototype: cimetidine (Tagamet).
