Objectives:

To familiarize with the construction of the Bunsen burner To identify its parts and to know the function of each To know how to properly use the Bunsen burner

Observations: The glass tubing can easily bend after heating it with non luminous flames.

Conclusion: Non luminous flames are hotter than luminous flame but the outer zone of non luminous flame is hotter than the inner zone of the non luminous.

Data and Result: A. Parts and Function of Bunsen burner Barrel mixing of o2 + gas = carbon dioxide Air hole passage of air Gas inlet passage of gas Collar control the passage of air Base supports the bunsen burner B. Two Kinds of Flames A. Luminous flames when the air hole is close the color of the flame is either yellow or orange B. Non-luminous flames when the air hole is open the color of the flame is blue

Answer to Question: 1. When air hole is close? Luminous Flame 2. Control the passage of the air? Collar

Application: Blue flames are hotter than the orange flames so that the blue flames or the non luminous flames usually use in laboratory because the combustion of the flames is fully complete When the air is closed the oxygen cant enter the air hole that is why luminous flames have an orange color because of the lack of oxygen in the combustion.
