Prologue
Do you remember the last dream you had? Everyone visits the mysterious dream world when they sleep at night. Did you know the world of Dreams actually exists?

When you fall asleep, your consciousness travels to another dimension, the world of Dreams in the Night Dimension. If you are experiencing hope, courage, purity, intelligence and growth, you will have a good dream in the beautiful world of Nightopia. These five positive traits can be found throughout the idyllic world in different colored orbs known as Ideya.

But dreams arent always happy. There is another world in the Night Dimension filled with darkness and horror known as Nightmare. Wizeman, the creator of this dark place, is determined to extinguish the light of Nightopia forever, and he regularly sends his Nightmarens to invade the peaceful Nightopia. When the five traits, or Ideya, are stolen from the happy dreamers, their dreams are turned to nightmares. Will and Helen, two 12-year-olds from the town of Bellbridge, are both struggling with difficult emotions and they regularly visit the world of Nightmare. They have lost the five Ideya of Nightopia and are forced to wander in the emptiness until they meet NiGHTS and an old owl. They learn that Nightopia is on the verge of extinction and only the Courage Ideya remains. Despite their difficult emotions, Will and Helen know they must defend their dreams. So begins the story of keeping ones dreams alive and the courage of a boy, a girl, and NiGHTS...

Characters
William Taylor Will, 12, is a very talented soccer player and from the youngest age his father trained with him ceaselessly. Though Will is popular and by far the best player on the team, he doesnt have many friends for all the time he spends with his father. When Wills father was transferred for work without warning, Will was not allowed to go with him and he was devastated with loneliness. He soon began having nightmares every night.

Reala Reala is one of the First-level Nightmarens created by Wizeman. Unlike NiGHTS who is free and unrestrained, graceful, bright and cheerful, Reala is obedient towards Wizeman the creator, as well as dirty, cruel, and insidious. As a symbol of loyalty, Reala wears a persona mask given to him by Wizeman. Reala acts as the leader of the whole Nightmaren force.

Helen Cartwright Helen is a 12-year-old girl who lives in a quiet residential area. She loves the violin and she dreams of playing for large audiences one day. She played violin with her mother every day until she became more interested in spending time with friends. She didnt allow herself to feel the deep guilt she held towards her mother and she began having nightmares.

Wizeman Wizeman is an all-powerful being who seeks to rule the Night Dimension, but one thing stands in his way: Nightopia. After creating the dark world of Nightmare, Wizeman populated it with creatures derived from its own soul known as Nightmarens. With the ability to create natural disasters and his wicked Nightmarens, Wizeman just may succeed in his quest to destroy Nightopia. Owl Owl watches over the adventures of NiGHTS, Will and Helen, and gives useful hints and information during Missions. If you have problems advancing, find the Owls perch with his likeness on it. During a mission, you may also select the Owl face for a hint using the Pause Menu. Goodles Under the orders of Reala, the Goodles watch over NiGHTS prison (also known as NiGHTS Capture) like prison guards. They hold a key that deactivates NiGHTS Capture. Goodles arent very smart nor are they powerful, but they can control huge birds and are incredibly quick when escaping. By tracing the trails of the birds, you can catch them quickly. Octopaw This rare creature from Nightopia sucks in the light and produces Rings, which creates Dash Power for NiGHTS. The Octopaw is harmless and very cowardly; it will run for its life as soon as it sees a human. If you chase it persistently, it will shoot ink at you.

NiGHTS NiGHTS detests being ordered around or restrained, and freely flies through the skies of Nightopia. NiGHTS is full of curiosity, and loves anything new or unusual. NiGHTS sometimes scares or makes fun of people. Although NiGHTS doesnt have a strong sense of righteousness, NiGHTS is unhappy about Wizemans attempt to eliminate Nightopia, and decides to help Will and Helen.

Awakers These mysterious messengers do not belong to Nightopia or Nightmare. Awakers will appear out of nowhere to bring a Visitor who has wandered into the Night Dimension back to the real world. By throwing Blue Chips, you can temporarily stop them, but you cannot defeat them. If you are caught by three Awakers, it will be Night Over.

Links This bonus technique is performed by obtaining items (Rings, Blue Chips, etc.) in succession within one second of each other. The points earned in the process will be doubled, tripled, and so on (max. x10). Also, except for a few Missions, there will be a time extension. As soon as the Link is broken, half the number of Links made will be added to your remaining time in seconds. Drill Dash

Guide Will or Helen to free NiGHTS. NiGHTS can fly outside the prison if Will or Helen dualizes with NiGHTS, but only for three minutes. Snatch a key to the prison from the guard, and break into the prison! Mission Flow and Rules You will start out as either Will or Helen. Guide him/her to NiGHTS Capture, and dualize with NiGHTS, and the Mission will begin. There are three NiGHTS Capture prisons, each with a prison guard and a course NiGHTS can fly. Snatch a key from the prison guard and return to the prison to complete a course, and then move onto the next course. ITEMS AND TRAPS Blue Chip A crystal made out of the light of Ideya that can be found throughout Nightopia. Obtaining one will add points to your score, but get them in successive Links to score high. Ring Go through a Ring and NiGHTS will recover a little Dash Power. There are also Double Rings, which appear like two half-Rings joined together at a right angle. Green Ring A special Ring that will not disappear no matter how many times you go through it, unlike normal Rings that disappear after you go through once.

Spike Ring A fake Ring with spiked metallic balls that will damage NiGHTS, unless you go through with a Drill Dash. Dash Ball Touch it and it will blow you away in a given direction.

AWAKERS While in human form, there will be a clock displayed at the bottom right. When this clock makes one full turn, beings called Awakers appear to chase you out of Nightopia. If one of them catches you, you will be slowed down. If three of them catch you, it will be a Night Over. You can attack by throwing Blue Chips at them, but it will only slow them down. There are ways to shake them off, so dont give up if they appear.

Switch A ball-shaped switch. Touch it, and something will happen...

SAVING The game automatically saves whenever you clear a Mission, exit My Dream, disconnect/connect online, collect a Dreamdrop or change the Options settings. An icon will be displayed at the top right of the screen to indicate that the game data is being saved.

NiGHTS Capture A special prison that holds NiGHTS. Only the key that the Goodles hold can free NiGHTS. By dualizing with someone who holds Ideya, NiGHTS can temporarily leave this prison, but after three minutes NiGHTS will be forced to return. The Door A mysterious Door that connects the Dream Gate and Nightopia. At first there were no Doors in Will and Helens world. Time Chip It can rewind time, delaying the arrival of the Awakers. There are two types: one rewinds 1/4 of the time, and the other resets to zero. Power Panel (Long Dust) The trail of Twinkle Dust becomes longer for a given time, allowing you to draw a Paraloop larger than you normally can. Power Panel (Dash Power) Restores your Dash Power fully.

Power Panel (Nightopians) Nightopians appear to collect Blue Chips for you for a short period of time.

Power Panel (Time Stop) At the instant you obtain it, time in Nightopia stops for a few seconds.

MY DREAM My Dream is your personal garden where you can watch A-LIFEs (Nightopians and Nightmarens). As you bring new A-LIFEs in, the form and appearance of your My Dream world will change. Through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, you can also visit other players My Dream, or have others visit yours.

Changes in Environment If there are more Nightopians than Nightmarens, the environment in My Dream will look more like Nightopia. If there are more Nightmarens, the place will look more like Nightmare. The landscape may also change according to the flight abilities of the A-LIFE nearby. Moreover, the weather in My Dream will change according to Weather Link, which will affect the A-LIFEs behavior. Objects in My Dream Depending on your results in the Missions, an object may appear. This could be a Treasure Chest with useful items, or objects such as a water fountain. The objects could be destroyed by Nightmarens, or disappear from the change in landscape. If there are no Nightopians with high curiosity nearby, the object may even weather.

Going Online Inside My Dream there is a Door that leads to other players online. Go through and visit the My Dream of your friend or someone you havent met before. You can also unlock the Door for other players to visit your My Dream, or you can lock it. When someone comes to visit you, a message will be displayed to notify you. You can choose to have him/her come in, or decline his/her visit. You can also invite a friend from your Friend Roster (p.20) to visit you. When inviting someone, you can choose to ring a Call Chime to let him/her know that you are waiting.

To play Wii games over the internet, you must first set up the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (Nintendo WFC) on your Wii. Please see the separate Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection instruction booklet included with this game for directions on setting up your Wii. To complete the Nintendo WFC setup, you will also need access to a wireless network device installed (such as a wireless router) and an active broadband or DSL internet account. If you do not have a wireless network device installed, you can order a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector (sold separately) directly from Nintendo. See the separate Nintendo WFC instruction booklet for more information. The Terms of Use Agreement which governs Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection game play is available in the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection instruction booklet or online at www.nintendowifi.com/terms. For additional information on the Nintendo WFC or setting up your Wii visit www.nintendowifi.com (USA, Canada and Latin America) or call 1-800-895-1672 (USA/Canada only).

Exchanging Gifts Upon visiting a friends My Dream, you can carry one gift (egg or A-LIFE) and give it to your friend, or take one home. After the confirmation, the gift will be exchanged. Note that gifts cannot be exchanged between the players that have not been registered on the Friend Roster.

A-LIFEs in My Dream A-LIFEs are sent to My Dream by capturing them in the Chase Mission through Paraloop. Note however that you can send only two Nightmarens of the same kind. Each A-LIFE has Health Points that decrease with time. As you play Missions in Nightopia, the time in My Dream advances also. To recover a Nightopians Health, feed it a Blue Chip. There is a certain area in My Dream where Nightopians will take a nap. While taking a nap, the Nightopians will not consume Health points. Note however that only up to five Nightopians can stay in this area.
