O2 says it has fixed network problems that left hundreds of thousands of customers without voice and data connections. "Our tests now show that all our 2G and 3G services have been fully restored for affected customers," the firm said in a statement. Little has been revealed about what caused the problems, although the mobile firm has narrowed it down to the part of its network which deals with registering telephone numbers. (bbc) Following the news that there'll be no upgrade path to Windows Phone 8 for the handset, Nokia has halved the price of its flagship Lumia 900 phone. Customers in the USA will now have to pay just $49.99 to get their hands on the device. (techradar)

HTC looks like it could be set to go head to head with Google's Nexus 7 tablet after a benchmark for a powerful device was leaked. The NenaMark2 results, which often throw up new phones and tablets that haven't been released to the market as engineers test them, promise a device that comes with an nVidia Tegra 3 processor and a screen resolution of 1280 x 752. (techradar) Apple has asked the US government-backed EPEAT group to re-certify its products, less than a week after opting out of the environmentally conscious scheme. Apple says it made a mistake by ditching the certification, which rewards gadgets that are energy efficient and recyclable & wants the 39 approved products back on the records. (techradar)

Retail footfall YTD 2012 v 2011 was down 2.8% for the week ending 8 July 2012 (footfall.com) Sales at John Lewis department stores climbed 15.3% to 71.6m last week, helped by wet weather and strong technology sales. Electricals and home technology revenues climbed 34.1% year-on-year in the period to July 7. The retailer said that the vision category continued its strong run as the Euro 2012 trade seemed to be replaced by a building anticipation of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Jessops chief executive Trevor Moore is to leave the retailer at the end of this month after three years at the helm. In May it was reported that Jessops was likely to win 10m investment from camera manufacturer Canon as the supplier aimed to protect an important route to market. It is unclear if the investment materialised. (retailweek)

EA have announced FIFA 13 Ultimate Edition, a premium package that will supply fans with 24 FIFA Ultimate Team gold packs to get their online season off to a flier. Users who purchase the Ultimate Edition will receive one gold pack per week for 24 weeks worth 15 in real money to help build their own ultimate team. Available only through pre-order or on 28 September. (independent)

More than 450,000 usernames and unencrypted passwords appear to have been stolen from Yahoo Voice, a user-contribution services on Yahoo's network, and posted online. Similar attacks have been reported separately against other online services, including Android Forums and Formspring. (guardian)

Android sales growth being driven by consumers trading up from feature phones to smartphones. Android has a higher share of those consumers spending under 50 on buying their handset Smartphone penetration in the prepay market is increasing, with Android handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy Ace and Y performing well.
