Indias agri-GDP is 14.4% of GDP i.e. 248 billion dollars. A median 40% is wasted. This 100 billion dollars worth of agri-produce by the farm system is at substantial labor and environmental cost that does not get capitalized.
FAO states that in developing countries 40% of losses occur post-harvest (before consumption) while in industrialized countries more than 40% losses occur at retail and consumer levels.

Why best seats are reserved for insightful SSCM player. Why the current supply chain finds itself unable to curb food wastage ? Production & yield challenges Evacuation Challenges Market end Challenges. The great SSCM entrepreneur must approach the issue holistically, because there is waste at every step and therefore opportunities at every step for the insightful SCM player.
To grow a large, profitable and change enabled SSCM, it is critical to understand how actions and deficits of other chain elements will impact your business. This intellectual approach generates PREDICTIVE quotient necessary to scale UNCERTAINTIES in the supply chain. UNCERTAINTY costs money and losses. An SSCM player extraordinaire must develop the expertise to predict and neutralize UNCERTAINTY strategically. In India the logistics optimization stands at 50% net productivity levels !
This leads to poor asset utilization. One part of the chain loses money, everybody losses. This occurs because of poor forecasting from a narrow approach. This occurs because of disorderly, non-interfacing chain elements. Limited understanding.
SSCM is not a rigid scientific equation (rigidity gives depreciating returns). A mere reactive and tactical operations approach is a small part of SSCM success.
How these immediate opportunities can be converted in the food supply chain ? The agri-yield improvement puzzle (land aggregation strategy impact). The pre-harvest loss mitigation strategy (capacity building impact). The farm road development impact (PPP extension).
A strategy enabled workforce which understands the grand plot. A leadership that gives unambiguous direction.
The tactics must also be aligned & long play oriented.... What is that long business play ? Personal declarations of goals an SSCM must make (what these could be )
Strategy blue print that SSCM must prepare.. Display Partnership building commitment .. SSCM must demonstrate Who we are? The value creation planned across the supply chain.. Why we you different... Your Social responsibility commitment ..
Why this helps to script unfaltering enterprise vision? (RIL) What will Indias GDP be & why? (Economics Democracy Booth Capture) What demographic shifts will occur in India? Will disposable incomes rise? (Median) How will dem. shifts impact human capital employed in my food supply chain? (PESTLE) How consumption habits change and what opportunities these changes present to the food SSCM player?
What are we doing now that we will not be able allowed to do in the evolving socio-legal perspective ? (module approach ) How capacity building can be implemented ? (internal/external) Value assurance for every chain element - SSCM will have to become fore-bearer of social good to script own success ? What is the less is more approach, why SSCM need to master this ? ( Posters everywhere, genesis, study) Soft socially sensitive image - Why truly large SSCMs must work to acquire this to flourish ? (Wall street, lynch mobs)
.......Or.......
Why holistic capacity building approach is pre-requisite to the future SSCM mega star ? Can you think of an exemplary company that we may emulate ?
( Poaching with high salary DFFI) (Wages great motivation) (10$ Ryans Buffet)
India 70 mmt short of crop storage (current storage 91mmt of which 60% private). Storage deficit results in around extensive produce losses. Rs. 5000 per mt cost to construct agri-storage.
Why PSUs will make way for Private sector ? Progressive large democracies (India) create dynamics for private sector participation? Why PSUs were a nation building imperative but have to make way for CSR driven organizations ?
A succinct picture of where you wish to arrive is what fructified ambitions. Build the capacity to ask yourself piercing questions & you will become the future you desire
