Storytelling is one of the oldest forms of human expression. While new and evolving technologies change the tools we use to relate human experience, the fundamental need to tell stories remains a constant. Learning how to effectively use new tools is certainly a significant part of what we teach our students, but teaching them to use the new techniques to tell compelling human stories remains the central core of the School of Theatre, Film and Television. The universal ideas that are contained in the theatre productions and films we produce are stories that define us as a culture and as individuals. Arizona Repertory Theatre, the Studio Series and our Film & Television Screenings help to give our students the chance to show their talents and to provide palpable results of what happens in our classrooms and studios. We believe that you, our audience members, will be equally enlightened and delighted this season as you watch and grow with our students, as their diverse voices engage us, and, quite possibly...change our world.

and the New York Drama Critics Award for best play, How I Learned to Drive is an ironic, lyrical tale of survival, as L'il Bit takes driving lessons from her Uncle Peck. While learning the rules of the road, Lil' Bit is drawn into something much darker and more complex. The play reflects upon both what Uncle Peck took from her her innocence and what he gave her in return namely, the freedom and independence of being behind the wheel. Vogel's incredible script examines troubling questions in a funny, surprising and devastating way.

The School of Theatre, Film & Television at the UA offers our students comprehensive training in the art and business of storytelling. Actors, directors, cinematographers, production designers, producers, production managers, editors, technicians and film and theatre scholars work, learn and create together in a rich and challenging environment. The Film & Television program provides professional preparation in the art of filmmaking, and in scholarly activity in Film & Television studies. The three screening events which culminate the advanced and intermediate Film & Television production courses include: Whats Up, Docs?, which is comprised of documentary films by the BFA junior class; Magic Hour, which is a fiction film collection by the BFA junior class; I Dream in Widescreen, which is the culmination of thesis films by the graduating senior class. Marroney Circle Of Friends

The Marroney Circle of Friends is a special group of donors dedicated to supporting the continued success of the Theatre Program. Membership gifts are a very important resource, helping support programs such as faculty travel for research and recruitment, guest artist fees, faculty and student travel to national theatre conferences, and faculty and student development and training in new technologies, as well as new program initiatives and enhancements for existing programs. Last season, membership gifts helped fund faculty travel for student recruitment and provided support for guest orchestral artists for our musicals. A Marroneys membership includes unique benefits such as special events just for members that allow interaction with students and faculty, behind-the-scenes looks into the production process, and opportunities to meet and mingle with fellow theatre lovers. Membership also includes recognition in our programs, as well as access to a special customer service line in our box office. Most importantly, membership means faith in our programs and our students.

THEATRE ALUMNI UPDATE

Nat Cassidy (BFA Acting 2004) just performed in the Off-Broadway run of Retro Production's The Runner Stumbles, by Milan Stitt. Next up, he's returning to the New York International Fringe Festival with the world premiere of his new script, SONGS OF LOVE: A Theatrical Mixtape, a collection of twisted short plays and original music. He also just sold a screenplay to a New York movie studio for production and is thrilled to have been commissioned by the Washington National Opera at The Kennedy Center for the libretto of a new, 20-minute opera (with composer Scott Perkins). Ruth George (MFA Costume Design/
Technology 2011) creates costumes for Feld Entertainment, Inc., headquartered in Florida. Feld Entertainment is the worlds leading producer of live, family entertainment and its productions have appeared in more than 70 countries, including Ringling Bros., Barnum & Bailey, Disney On Ice and Disney Live.

Danny Jacobs (BFA Musical Theatre 1991) just recorded four songs for the Madagascar 3 soundtrack, singing as the ring-tailed, mischievous lemur, King Julien. Danny won an Emmy in 2011 for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program for his voice acting as King Julien on Nickelodeons The Penguins of Madagascar. Whats next for Danny? Hes decided to change gears and apply to seminary school to become a priest in Los Angeles. Tamika Sonja Lawrence (BFA
Musical Theatre 2010) is performing in the ensemble cast of The Book of Mormon on Broadway as Mrs. Brown. She began her role in this smash, comedy musical during March, 2012. When Tamika has time, she performs in smaller shows around New York.
