NEWS ENGINEERING NIG.LTD production department is a mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, Structural engineering service department. It encompasses virtually all fields of professions that are committed to provide competitive high quality products and services to its clients. Its strong position is supported by the vast network of operations and facilities. The department is streamlined to effectively serve the highly specialized and demanding needs of the construction industry sector. The department believes in diversity, innovation, creativity and technological expertise of its people and partners. Reflecting on the departments vision of global excellence is its strategy towards constant progress.

PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT PROFILE OF EXISTENCE (ORIGIN)

Production department under an indigenous Electrical construction company NEWS ENGINEERING NIG.LTD is incorporated under the law of the federal republic of Nigeria with its operational base in Abuja FCT. It was established in 1st September, 2004 as a small construction workshop by a visionary industrialist, late Sir Cyprian Ojimadu Nwaeze, former MD/CEO NEWS ENGINEERING of blessed memory. Since inception, it has been involved in mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, Structural construction works with tremendous expansion capacity. The services are built upon total commitment to quality, together with an inherent flexibility to respond swiftly and positively to individual and collective needs of its customers. Due to the use of skilled engineering technique, it is backed up with the integration of motivated people, application of appropriate standards and prioritizing safe working conditions.

FACTORY SITE LOCATION

The department is currently suited in the main yard of NEWS ENGINEERING NIG.LTD, plot 2-11 outer northern bye-pass, along kubwa expressway, opposite gwarinpa housing estate, Abuja (FCT). It occupies a 2km sq site located at the adjacent side of the companys main yard in a long span roofed workshop housing a variety of machines, equipment, instruments, tools and human resources.

MODE OF OPERATION
The department runs a two (2) shifts operation because of its immense nature of production. For an effective, efficient and large scale output capacity, it maintains a normal shift (8am-5am) and night shift (5pm-5am) operations. This mode of operation keeps the machines, equipment, instruments, tools and labour forces steadily functional thereby maximizing its profit potentials in the aspect of utilities (products) productions. By this mode of operation, the expertise and the personal commitment of our employee guarantee great flexibility, thus guarantee economic viability and guarantee price, deadline and quality of projects. This also enables it function without hiccups by creating a dynamic and rewarding work environment to nurture and sustain the creative spirit.

ITS UNDER-TAKINGS

The corporate thinking is oriented around the needs of local and national needs in the market. That is the field activity of News Engineering production department as varied as the demands set upon it. The highest level of expertise, future-oriented and innovative know-how and excellent internal infrastructure enables it to meet the demanding requests made by the customers on the safely, economically, quickly, and flexibly purposes. It offers the customers a performance spectrum consisting a targeted projection to the conception, planning and execution to the smooth start-up operations.

OPERATIONAL SET-UPS
The department has evolved into four (4) solid sections thus: Construction/fabrication section Chemical/electroplating section Machine workshop section Feeder pillar/electrical panel workshop section

(A)CONSTRUCTION/FABRICATION SECTION This section handles all the construction/fabrication process operations which range from the construction of 11kv tie-straps, 33kv tie-straps, u-channel iron cross-arms (9ft), u-channel iron cross-arms (6ft), angle iron cross-arms (8ft), angle iron crossarm (6ft), trailer bodies, streetlight poles, garden-light poles, over-head tanks, empty feeder pillar cubicles, empty AC/DC

panels, metal stair cases, transmission towers, gantries, transmission line foundation metal formworks, moulds for casting, metal gates, stubs, metal chairs, tables, metal cupboards etc. The construction and fabrication quality of the utilities (products) stands the taste of time as they for in-house and commercial consumptions.

(B)CHEMICAL/ELECTROPLATING SECTION The chemical/Electroplating section has the capability of given an aesthetic finishing of all constructed/fabricated utilities (products) from the construction section by electroplating them. PLUG REFURBLISHMENTS are also being handled alongside with electroplating activities. Used plugs from engines are refurbished to its original working conditions through chemical operation activities. It operates with six (6) large electroplating baths, two (2) high amperage rectifiers (1000A), barrel washer plating machine, Gee Pee plastic tanks, filtration machines, heater, plastic baskets, safety eye goggles, rubber hand gloves, safety boots etc. Every employee in this section is safety conscious because of the hazardous nature of the electroplating chemicals being used. The utilities (products) constructed can be given a zinc-plated, copper-plated, chrome-plated, silver-plated, nickel-plated and gold-plated surface finishing. The finished utilities (products) can withstand rusts, corrosions and maintains its aesthetic nature for years. (C)MACHINE WORKSHOP SECTION

Lathe machine, ram-head milling machine, pillar/radial drilling machine, power hacksaw, horizontal band saw machine, mill cutters, multimatic punching/cutting machine, hydraulic press bending machine, guillotine cutting machine, shaping machine and other variety of machines and equipment are stocked in the machine workshop section for turning and machining operations. Machine spare parts, bolts nuts/washers, shafts of different sizes, punches, dies, foundation bolts, stay rods, cams, clamps, step turning and milling operations are carried out in the machine workshop section. The section is adaptable for quantity production, job shop operations, batch and mass production works, repair works and experimental work. Design drawings and specifications of each project to its turning/ machining operation execution has the main objective for customer satisfaction through the combination focused vision. It also undergoes boring, machining of flat surfaces, contoured surfaces, and helical surfaces of various cross section operations.

(D) FEEDER PILLAR/ELECTRICAL PANEL WORKSHOP Assembling of 400A 4-way feeder pillar, 800A 4-way feeder pillar, AC/DC sub-station panels, marshalling kiosk, lighting kiosk and automatic main function (AMF) systems are the prioritized responsibility functions of the feeder pillar/Electrical panel workshop section. It also undergoes wiring, installations, and machine control system operations.

Customer satisfaction of the finished products gave a good huge recommendation from P.H.C.N officials during their tour. The standard of its products is second to none and can compete favorably with any in both local and international markets.

REGISTRATION ACT
The department under the factories act of 1990 has been duly registered and accredited in pursuance of section (3) of the factories act of 1990 (Federal republic of Nigeria).

The purpose of work activity in respect of which the premises has been registered as engineering construction, production and electrical installation factory site

It has been awarded an authentic certificate of registration of factory from the Federal Ministry of Labour & Productivity of Nigeria.

POLICIES ON HEALTH AND SAFETY

Production department make the health, safety and welfare of all personnel participating in its operations a matter of primary concern in all its activities. Every employee has been provided with safe and healthy work environment. All efforts in ensuring the elimination of personal injuries, loss control and adequate security of work site and work site has been maintained over the years. High premium has been placed on crew safety, education and hazard control. As a matter of fact, an employee reserves the right to suspend any activity he believes counters the departmental safety policy and report same to his supervisor and manager.

POLICIES ON ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

The department is committed to ensure clean and healthy environment, especially in the course of its operations. Every effort has been geared towards minimizing environmental hazards, which will cause destruction to the environment during our work. It always strikes a balance between social-economic activities and environmental hazards, in such a way that our quests for improving its operational activities shall not be a disaster. It regards environmental management as helping ourselves to maintain clean, safety, healthy and hazard free environment. The department ensures that: No damage is done to the environment Discourages all activities capable of causing destruction to the environment Awareness concerning environmental safety is created Making a clarion declaration on safety principle and ethics

SUMMARY
In summary, the departmental comprehensive documentation package is vital to the successful operation and maintenance of project. It has experience to provide a documentation package ranging from a basic drawing set to a complete project execution. All project documentation has been electronically archived and place under a suitable documentation control system. The production department provides both shot term and long term operational support for any of its projects. Its permanent staff can provide long-term, short-term support, local representatives and also recruiting individuals with the proper technical background. With its vast knowledge in project planning, construction and execution on site, what is on design paper according to project specification and maintenance support is for any project using the same philosophy as with construction assistance.
