Lesson Plan STARHUB-CENTRAL SINGAPORE NURTURE PROGRAMME NURTUREPLUS LESSON 10: FINAL -ED (2nd lesson) Part 1 Duration

10 minutes Lesson READING FLUENCY Objective: To check / monitor students progress in reading 1. Teacher recaps previous lesson taught and get student response. 2. Ask each student to read the book aloud. 3. Teacher checks reading of each student. While student reads: 1. Teacher corrects any mistakes made. 2. Students write down words not read correctly in their notebook /worksheet. 3. While teacher is assessing a particular student, the rest will read on their own while waiting for their turn. Materials Reading Material: Own PM+ Level books for each group (depends on proficiency level of each student group) 1 set for teacher, 1 for pupil Worksheet: Lesson 10

10 minutes

WORD STUDY Objective: Students will recap the final ed when applied to CVC or CVCC words (except words that end with t and d) and how it changes the tense of the verb (present to past) 1. Write some CVCC words on the board e.g. jump, clap and drop and make students pronounce the words. 2. Add ed to the words above and ask students on the difference between the two forms. (recap student knowledge on how the final ed changes the tense form of the verb.) 3. Engage students by asking them what is verb. (action verbs) 4. Show students some other CVC and CCVC words in the present tense (refer to Teacher Resource) and invite students to say out the words. Make the students changes the tenses of the verbs by adding final -ed to the verbs in their worksheets. 6. Ask students to pronounce the words and correct student pronunciation and work. 7. End this part of the lesson by explaining role of final ed in verbs.

INSTRUCTIONAL READING Objective: Students will recap the use of final ed in verbs to show an event that has happened. Before reading: 1. Pass the books to students. 2. Engage student interest by asking them to guess what the story is about by looking at the title. 3. Guide student response. Reading: 1. Make students read books in their own groups. 2. Engage student by asking them to underline the verbs in present tense. After reading: 1. Ask student s to change the present tense verbs into past tense. 2. HA: at least 10, MA: At least 7 and LA: at least 3 3. Check student work and guide weaker ones. Ensure proper spelling and pronunciation. 4. Go through student work and comment on good work. 5. If there is time, can ask students to draw the pizza that Pete has made in his shop and colour it. 6. Put up the work around the class. (for a gallery walk)

WRITING Objective: Students will improve writing fluency 1. Review the final ed words learnt in the lesson and encourage students to write as many words as they can remember from the words they have seen or read. (from passage or books) 2. Ask each student to stand up and read the words they have written and share to the class. 3. Monitor and help students with their spelling and pronunciation.

BOARD GAMES Objective: Students will reinforce their understanding in topics taught (in this lesson or previous) by engaging in educational games. 1. Hand out games appropriate to each level. 2. Monitor students progress and understanding in games. 3. Wrap up lesson by highlighting what students have learnt. Any games students have not played before.

Then he uses a roller to roll out the dough. It looks like a huge pancake. Next he tosses the dough high into the air. Pete puts red sauce on the pizza. Then he puts pepperoni and cheese on it. Finally, he puts the pizza in a large oven to bake. Joe, Jen and Jim smell the pizza cooking. They cant wait to eat a slice.
