Origins of the tour. Venice was the venue for 2011, due to cheap flights from Jet2 and, like Spain, this tour was manually arranged. LinkedIn was the first resource and a response came through a Venice Group, from Francesca Faggian, suggesting we choose a hotel out of the main Venice area and offering her company team (Vimage SRL) as an opponent. We chose the Green Garden Resort outside Venice (under recommendation). It actually had its own sports complex and thats where the game against Vimage SRL was arranged. The second opponents sourced were Amici Pellestrina Calcetto, via a message placed on their Facebook Group. Mauro Scarpa and Gianpietro Busetto were the organisers and also arranged a game at the hotel venue. The key points in getting the groundwork done after choosing the country were as follows: Try to find a venue with a sporting venue. Scour the Internet using Facebook, Linkedin and all the other social sites.

Tour members. The only new member was Kevin Cooper, a goalkeeper, replacing Scott Hembrough. Tim Gillespie Dave Gourlay Kevin Cooper Mark Edmondson Davinder Sangha

Insurance. The team was not playing in a competition and only in friendly games so match insurance requirements was vague. Basic insurance was taken out. Team wear. No sponsorship was received so the shirts were purchased with no tour logos on and no numbering or motifs apart from the Sassco badge. No tour clothing was needed. The shirts were not given to the 5 playing members to keep after the tour. Marketing. Not much publicity was generated for this tour prior to it, as the focus was to have a publicity boost after it, to try and get more participants. The Facebook Fanpage generated a great deal of interest close to the time and the official website had a countdown timer until the first game kicked off. Website analytics showed that the site gained a massive boost in visits during the tour, as live updates were made in Venice. This directly led to the 2012 tour in Germany gaining nine participants. Travel from UK to Italy. The logistics of getting the 5 players to Italy was slightly complicated. The airport was LeedsBradford, so parking was arranged and three members travelled from the North East, while the other two made their own arrangements. The first game was scheduled for the evening, so the team had plenty of time to arrive, despite no delays. In Italy and the hotel. Once the team arrived in Italy, the luggage was easily collected and the hotel had pre-arranged transport to take the team to hotel. The hotel was located in a rural area on the outskirts of Venice and had its own sports pitches and an outdoor pool. The hotel also had a WLAN Internet connection available for use. The games We decided to have two games, back-to-back for both matches. 9th September 2011 (Friday) Amici Calcetto Pellestrina 7:00pm Amici Calcetto Pellestrina 6 Sassco.co.uk 1 Amici Calcetto Pellestrina 3 Sassco.co.uk 3 10th September 2011 (Saturday) Vimage SRL 3:30pm Vimage SRL 3 Sassco.co.uk 3 Vimage SRL 4 Sassco.co.uk 5 For both games, we used the smaller size Futsal ball as well as our own ball. Match presentations. We provided badges to the opponents before the game and received caps from Vimage SRL. The return flights to Leeds-Bradford. The return to the airport was done using the hotels taxi. The flights took off on schedule and the team arrived back in Leeds, before the drive back to the North East.

Tour footage. Video footage was taken of all four games. This was processed and titled. A presentation DVD set was provided to all participants and also posted to the Italian opponents. The videos were also uploaded to YouTube in full and are linked on the Sassco website. Final costs of the Spain Tour 2010. The costs were calculated as follows (some are approximate figures): 540 per 5 persons for the hotel. 143.96 per flight for 5 persons. Other costs included taxi fares and the match costs were 5 each. The recommended procedures, as mentioned in this document, are summed up below: Choose a location country, ideally with good flight links from the nearest airport. Find out about low cost flights to the destination. Buying in bulk will get a discount. Search extensively on the Internet for country based tour guides and operators. Also check the local football association's details. Use networking sites such as Facebook to identify contacts. Choose a date for the tour, but make sure that everybody (players, tour operator, hotel manager) is aware that the dates will be flexible and based around the available flights. Identify nearby hotels and drive the price down as much as possible, but best to purchase the hotel combined with the flight. Once the flights have been identified, set a date for a deposit of around 50%. This will be classed as non-returnable. Make sure you always remind those interested not to be vague about coming. Ask for a straight yes or no answer and ask if they are able to pay the deposit by that date. ALWAYS PAY BY CREDIT CARD (not debit card or cheque). There will be an extra 1 or 2 percent added to the total, but this covers the payer in case anything gets cancelled, etc. Once deposit is in, purchase the flights and hotel. Advise the tour op and hotel. Try and arrange flight seating together. Prepare a detailed checklist. Main things to look at are: o Passport details to match the flight ticket name. o Passports to be valid and not expired. Some countries demand passports that have no less than six months before they expire. o Arrange basics such as shorts, socks, football boots, shin pads. Always recommend two pairs of each. Provide pennants and presentation items before each game for the opponents. These can be sourced by looking on the Internet for custom pennants. Ensure cameras and camcorders have back up batteries, extra tapes/discs. Some countries require power plug adaptors. Make email contact with potential opponents. Realistically, opponents would not be confirmed until around a month before the tour. Contact other teams in the area as potential back ups. On the day of the flight, make sure that everyone is reminded about passports and kits, etc. In the destination country, make sure that you have a good supply of water for all the games. If recording using a camcorder, make sure every full tape is stored separately after use. Use the safe at reception if required. Use the hotel's Internet connection or local internet cafe to upload photos to Facebook or into your space. This is to ensure that if anything is lost, at least the imagery will be available. On the return journey, ensure that seating is arranged together.

Tour success. The tour was successful and much more so than the Spain Tour. This was due to the Spain Tour being quite hectic and involving a lot of travelling and too many games (four one hour games). The Italy Tour had only two hours worth of football and gave the team a day off on Sunday. Also, having all the games in the hotel facility was a major bonus. All the match reports, detailed photos as well as full footage in good quality of all two days of the tour are available on the website http://www.sassco.co.uk. All the relevant companies and suppliers web links are also on the site. Germany Tour 2012. The next tour is too take place in Dusseldorf. The flights are by Lufthansa from Newcastle in August 2012. The opponents are indoor opponents; FC Vollkontakt and Futsal Lions. The tour has nine members participating.
