Cost savings take up permanent residence at the Hotel Marin Princess

Challenge
Upgrade a busy hotels desktop computers with a cost-efficient solution that is easy to deploy and manage. The Hotel Marin Princess is located less than 25 km from Instanbul on the shore of the Sea of Marmara. The hotel serves a constant influx of business travelers doing business nearby and leisure travelers looking to relax and enjoy the mild Mediterranean climate. To maintain a high occupancy rate in its 400 rooms, the hotel relies heavily on PCs to make reservations, serve guests, and process payments. In addition to the PCs used at the registration desk and in the administration offices, the hotel added PCs in common areas to meet the needs of their guests. But the IT staff faced a problem as those PCs broke down. Since they had to repair or update one PC at a time, the constant flow of guests made performing repairs inconvenient. The hotel needed to find a cost-efficient solution that could be centrally managed but was also easy to deploy.

NComputing makes a reservation

The hotel IT staff researched the NComputing L-series virutal desktops and deployed a pilot program. The installation was fast and easy. It took about 10 minutes per workstation, said Mr. Ufuk Yatk, CTO of the Marin Princess. L-series access devices were placed alongside traditional PCs in the lobby, the business center, the reception desk, and in the accounting office. Employees and guests used the NComputing L-series just like they did traditional desktops. We were able to use all the applications we were using before, such as CRM software, Office applications, and Outlook email, and each user still had their own desktop, said Mr. Yatk. The IT department managed the desktops remotely.

L-series: the perfect concierge

The NComputing solution is based on a simple fact: todays PCs are so powerful that the vast majority of applications only use a small fraction of the computers capacity. NComputings virtualization software and hardware tap this unused capacity so that it can be simultaneously shared by multiple users. A fully connected hotel

The hotel staff and guests experienced the same level of performance on the L-series as they did on traditional PCs. The IT department no longer had to repair individual workstations and could easily manage them remotely. The hotel saw an immediate savings of 50% in purchase costs with the NComputing solution as compared to deploying additional desktop PCs. The IT department saved over 70% on maintenance costs, and since the L-series is so efficient, the hotel consumed 90% less electricity running PCs than they did before. The pilot was so successful that the management decided to install the L-series across the entire hotel. In addition, workstations with touchscreens were installed in executive hotel rooms, by the pool, in the restaurant, and as self check-in kiosks. We are now able to provide secure computer access to all of our employees and guests. The IT department is also able to effectively use their time because of the ease of deployment and ability to centrally manage the desktops, stated Mr. Yatk.
