Whats new at Wenonah?

Mini Golf Course The Wenonah Pines Golf and Country Club is a newly added attraction at Wenonah. Here, campers and staff can enjoy a leisurely round of mini golf. This mini golf course has 9 holes, all named after 10 year Wenonah staff, such as: Bootsie Best (Older brother of current staff member Hannah Best), Jason Monteith (current Period 5 Director), and a familiar name to many, Mike Stewy Stewart. If you havent already played a round or two, you should find some time to play a quick nine. Digital Photography The Digital Photography PIC is one of the new PICs at Wenonah this year. This PIC is able to happen because of the generous donations by Roberta Bondar, the first Canadian woman to ever to go into space. While in space, her mission was to photograph Earth for NASA, although she is no longer an astronaut she is a professional photographer. Her organizations donations provide equipment to schools and camps so that her love of photography can continue into further generations. This PIC gives camper the chance to experience the nature around Wenonah through the lens of a camera and capture its beauty. Happy Camper Journalism Well, this new and exciting PIC needs little description. The Happy Camper that you are reading is what we do in this PIC. We write articles, interview people and get the experience of real journalists. We produce two editions of the Happy Camper every two-week session, using the equipment in the IT Centre, and we format each edition as well. GaGa Ball GaGa Ball is a very popular sport at Camp. The objective of the game is to not get hit from the waist down while trying to hit others from the waist down by hitting the ball with a fist and keeping it on the ground. After many years of a makeshift court made up of lodge benches, we now have a regulation size court. There is no player limit, so everyone can play!

Whats coming up?

The Wenonah Games! Its that time of the year again! Wenonahs three camps houses, Dawaa, Aki and Zibbins, will soon face off for the ultimate camp cup. The teams are already in gruelling preparation for the three days of intense activities and challenges, but only one team can emerge victorious. Ultimately, the team with the most points wins the Challenge Cup. The teams will engage in activities such as: archery, mini golf, the monster relay, the Mickle Island canoe race and even The Happy Campers favorite event greasy watermelon. By the end of the three days, even though thousands of points will be handed out , every point earned makes a difference. Some might remember that in 2008, Aki and Zibbins tied for 2nd place with 5,885 points, while Dawaa won by only 5 points with a total of 5,890!

Dawaa has overcome the other teams two times in row. Will Dawaa continue their streak or will a rejuvenated Aki or Zibbins team emerge victorious?

Camper Opinions
Morning dip Locations: Would you rather jump off a dock with your friends to wake up OR would you rather run into the water on the beach with spiders crawling all over you as you walk into the lake and finally when you get in you have to swim all the way back and walk back to the cabin with sandy and muddy feet. Obviously this doesnt sound like fun, so you probably dont want to switch for good. But maybe we can switch sometimes and change things up to make this fair. Alternating morning dip locations between the boys and girls would be much appreciated. Weve talked to many campers who feel this way! Shower times: Are you a morning person? Well imagine waking up at 6:30 most mornings just to take a shower; with a line all around camp, and finally when you get in there its time to go eat breakfast. PERFECT! The girls only other option is to use up ALL our rest hour. On the other hand, the boys get a nice warm late shower and are able to cuddle into bed. Additionally the boys have their very own showers for only them and yet they still decide to take the only one we have that we share. The fair thing to do is to alternate shower times between the girls and boys. We welcome your responses! Please write us a Letter to the Editor and submit it to the Ask Alder box.

Dutch Braid with Dana from Alder

Gather a 1 inch section from the crown of your head. Split that into 3 sections. Name the sections A, B, and C. B being the middle section. Cross A under B. Then cross C under A. The outer two pieces go under the middle strand instead of over the middle strand like you would in a regular braid. Take small sections of hair from each side of your head and gradually add them to the other pieces. Continue until you reach the nape (middle of the back) of your neck and braid the rest of the way underneath each strand like before.
