The Chevron Specialist Engineering Scholarships Guidelines for Applicants

Chevron North Sea Ltd. is offering four Chevron Specialist Engineering Scholarships (one Mechanical Engineering Scholarship, one Petroleum Engineering Scholarship, one Chemical Engineering Scholarship, and one Electrical and Electronic Engineering Scholarship). The scholarships are open to full time students commencing third year of any of the undergraduate degree programmes listed below in September 2012: MEng Petroleum Engineering (H850) MEng Chemical Engineering (H810) MEng Mechanical Engineering (H305) MEng Mechanical Engineering with Materials (H3JM) MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering (H605) Features of The Chevron Scholarship Programme open to Chevron Scholars: - Financial support as detailed below - Notice of internship opportunities with Chevron - Mentoring Please note that any number of scholarships can be applied for; however priority will be given to students not already in receipt of a scholarship. Students are not able to hold more than one corporate scholarship at any one time. The successful applicants will each receive 1,000 for year 3, 2,000 for year 4 and 3,000 for year 5 of their undergraduate degree programme (i.e. 6,000 over 3 years). The annual scholarship payment will be awarded in two installments. The first installment will be awarded in the first semester, and provided that satisfactory academic attainment is maintained, the second installment will be awarded in the second semester. All students regardless of nationality or fee status are eligible to apply for the scholarships. The scholarship will be subject to the scholarship recipient successfully completing each year of their degree to the satisfaction of

the School of Engineering. The scholarship will lapse if the scholar ceases to study an eligible degree programme or leaves the University of Aberdeen. Where a scholarship recipient is required to repeat a year because they failed to reach the required academic requirements, payment will not be made for the repeat year and resumption of the scholarship will be based on individual circumstances and will be at the discretion of the Head of School of Engineering. The scholarship can only be held by students of the University they cannot be transferred to another institution. The College of Physical Sciences Scholarship Committee, comprising the Head of School of Engineering, nominated course leaders, and a representative of the Development Trust, will consider the applications, shortlist the candidates and make the awards. In making the decision, the selection panel will take into account your educational background and achievements, other relevant information given in your application form, personal statement, CV and the statement from your referee. The University will award the scholarships to applicants who have good academic potential, and who are likely to be successful in their chosen degree course. The Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and personal characteristics. Academic merit will be judged on first and second year academic performance. In respect of personal characteristics, applicants should be able to show, through submission of a personal statement (section 5 of the application form), that they: Are enthusiastic, highly motivated and determined to succeed academically and professionally Have a strong commitment to selfdevelopment and take a pro-active and committed approach to their education. Possess good communication and interpersonal skills Are good team players and demonstrate team working skills. Have an awareness of and interest in the energy industry How to Apply Complete the application form, and send it together with your reference and a CV, to Jenny Styles at the address below. You will receive correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application.

Reference You will need to provide a supporting Reference. It should preferably be completed by an academic member of staff at the University of Aberdeen who is familiar with your academic achievements. This may be your Advisor of Studies, course coordinator, course lecturer, course tutor, etc. Alternatively, someone who is familiar with your recent studies and academic achievements or with your intellectual capabilities whether at school, college, or in employment would also be a satisfactory referee. Someone from your school or college (normally but not necessarily the Head Teacher or Principal) or someone from your place of work who has a supervisory or managerial role would be a satisfactory referee. The form for your Reference should be given to the person you have nominated. The person writing the Reference should give it back to you, either open or in a sealed envelope. It is then your responsibility to ensure that the reference is enclosed with your application. The Reference provided will form part of the scholarship selection process. It is helpful if the Referee explicitly deals with the Scholarship Selection criteria and refers to information detailed by the applicant in the Scholarship Application. NB: applications where the candidate has written the supporting reference will not be considered by the selection panel. Notification of Awards You will be told whether or not your application has been successful by post at the

correspondence address on your application form by 9 November 2012. Completing the form Section 1 - Personal details Make sure that you give us your name and your address for correspondence. You should supply your date of birth and your student ID number. Please supply the name of the degree programme you are studying at the University of Aberdeen. You should supply the name of the school, college or other educational institution which you attended before studying at the University of Aberdeen. Please also supply your email address as an acknowledgement to confirm receipt of your application will be sent. Section 2 Courses taken and grades achieved in your first and second years at the University of Aberdeen Please list the courses you studied in your first and second years at the University of Aberdeen and the grades achieved. If you require further space for Sections 2 please continue on an extra sheet Section 3 - Sponsorships, Scholarships and Prizes If you have applied for, or already been awarded a bursary or scholarship, or have applied for or gained scholarship to support your undergraduate studies, please give details of the source(s) and amount(s) involved. List any prize or award you have gained for academic performance or in employment, or for other skills or achievements, whether in school or college, or outside. Section 4 - Relevant outside activities Please tell us about any activity you take part in which you feel is relevant to your current or future studies. Section 5 - Personal statement You should tell us why you have chosen the degree course that you are studying and say something about your experience and interests. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and personal characteristics. In respect of personal

characteristics, applicants should be able to show in this section that they: Are enthusiastic, highly motivated and determined to succeed academically and professionally Have a strong commitment to selfdevelopment and take a pro-active and committed approach to their education. Possess good communication and interpersonal skills Are good team players and demonstrate team working skills. Have an awareness of and interest in the energy industry.
