Berberian Sound Studio features Toby Jones creating gory sound effects and Joe Wrights Anna Karenina sees the director teaming up again with Keira Knightley. Closing September is the highly anticipated The Intouchables. Three very different documentaries also feature: Nostalgia For the Light centres around Chiles Atacama Desert; Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry is Alison Klaymans portrait of the fascinating artist and lastly The Imposter presents a study of a familys loss and a young mans identity and trauma. Special events include NT Live: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, the Future Shorts Festival and a Q&A broadcast with legendary Tippi Hedren. Plus dont miss the chance to see Labyrinth with The Princess Bride or Prometheus followed by Alien in one of our Sunday Double Bills. Finally, its that time again to mention the weather. A heatwave is promised for August so you will have every excuse to visit our caf balcony. - Neil Rebak, General Manager

Jackpot (15)
1hr 26. Norway 2012. Directed by Magnus Martens. With Kyrre Hellum, Henrik Mestad, Marie Blokhus. In Norwegian with English subtitles. Following the huge success of Headhunters, comes the latest thriller from crime writer Jo Nesb. When the police find small-time criminal Oscar (Hellum) covered in blood, holding a shotgun, near eight dead bodies in a strip club, it doesnt take them long to jump to certain conclusions concerning his guilt. Oscar protests his innocence, however, and begins to tell a story of how he won 1.7m on the football pools with a syndicate of three criminal friends and how things began to go very, very wrong. Telling its Coen brothers-esque tale in a sequence of extended flashbacks, Jackpot manages to keep the laughter coming even as the violence escalates.

EDUCATION
Film Education
Our film education work engages with children and young people through term-time screenings with primary and secondary schools. We now have a successful programme of primary school visits that focus on cinema over the ages, and science in light and shadow and moving image. We have been working on sustained term-long projects with local secondary school groups in Art, Photography, Music and English relating to cinema and its heritage here at The Phoenix. Many of the results are displayed in our gallery over the year. If you are a parent or teacher and would like to learn more about our work, please visit our website phoenixcinema.co.uk/education or call 0208 442 0442 and speak to Tara Cleary.
