Task 1: NOTE: If using a 1769-PA4 Power supply, check the Input Voltage selection Switch.

This is set to 240VAC from the factory. DF1 and ENET comms will not work properly if connected to 120VAC Circuit and the swich is set to 240VAC. NOTE: EtherNet/IP LED Indicators. If Ethernet LEDs MS and NS indicate a major fault, as per "EtherNet/IP LED Indicators" section of publication 1769-um011, try applying a new IP address to the Ethernet card whilst online via the serial port. Check that the controller power switch selection is correctly made, ie, if power fed is 120, then switch is not set to 240 nd vice versa. Failure to do this can cause temperory loss of communication on the Ethernet or controlnet port. Recommended is feeding a 240vac input to power supply module.

Task 2: Check the Ethernet connection cable

The Ethernet port can be interfaced with a direct (Ethernet crossover) cable or through an Ethernet hub/switch using standard Ethernet patch cables. Using crossover cable is essential.

Ethernet 10baseT Crossover cable

A crossover cable with rj45 male connectors is required, with the following pinout: Name TX+ TXRX+ RXPin 1 2 3 6 3 6 1 2 Pin RX+ RXTX+ TXName

Make sure the TX lines are one pair, and the RX lines another pair. Maximum length for 10baseT cables is 100 meters (328 ft.), but can be longer. Apart from this, the rj45 jack connector user to connect to the port should be of a very high grade. Ensure there are no loose connections or the spring action pins of the port are not depressed permanently. They should be cleaned regularly with a good cleaner and temperature of the port after cable connection should be under acceptable limits.

Task 3:

Go online via serial communications and go to the Ethernet card port settings and verify that the controller has an ip address and that the Bootp and DHCP are disabled. If not, assign an ip address and subnet mask via a Boot p server or other method. Save the settings for your application before closing. If the controller has an IP address and subnet mask assigned, go to the computers control panel make sure the Windows Firewall is disabled. Go to Network Connections and make sure the Wireless connection is disabled. Make sure the LAN connection > TCP/IP > properties has a static ip address and subnet mask for the computer are in the same subnet of the L32E. If the computer is connected directly to the L32E make sure to use an Ethernet crossover cable Make sure the computer and the L32E is on the same subnet or is connected through a gateway which can connect together the two networks. Task 4: Make sure your RSLinx software is upto date. Download the latest software from ab.com
