ISPS CODE IN PORT OF RIJEKA

On the June 24th 2004 Ministry of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development has approved Port facility security plan, with the previous permission given by Ministry of Internal Affairs. Port of Rijeka is currently on Security level 1 Port ID No. 24951 UN Locator code HRRJK Assigned PF No. 0003

PORT REGULATIONS The Port of Rijeka Authority's permanent objective is to provide for the safety of vessels sailing in the Rijeka Maritime Zone, look after security not only of the vessels but also of the coastal zone and harbour facilities and in this way help towards preservation of the coastal area and protection of the marine environment. The Port of Rijeka, with its terminals, is situated in Rijeka Bay which cuts deeply into the Continent. In regard to the approaching channel "Vela Vrata", Rijeka Bay is a sensitive area for vessel traffic. The Port of Rijeka Authority, understanding the importance of the environmental protection and wishing to approach it as seriously as possible by meeting high standards, have recognized the need of publishing this handbook as an assistance to all ships when entering/leaving the local waters of Rijeka and staying within the Rijeka Port area. The handbook contains general information on the local waters of Rijeka Bay, port regulations and methods of using harbour facilities in the area under the Port of Rijeka Authority (except the Omialj Basin Port facilities). The information herein contained does not supersede the application of other official publications dealing with the safety of maritime traffic but rather welcomes them as a necessary complemen

DANGEROUS GOODS Ships carrying dangerous or polluting cargoes require additional preventive measures and particular supervision of responsible services in order to reduce potential risks to persons, ship or port. Within the Port of Rijeka Authority we have recognized the need of preparing operational instructions for a safe handling of dangerous and polluting goods. The purpose of these instructions is to give all the necessary information to masters of ships which arrive into the area under the management of Port of Rijeka Authority,

related to important facts and circumstances for the berthing and the stay of ships within the port, to how dangerous goods should be handled and how to call for emergency services. These operational instructions are intended for masters of ships carrying dangerous or polluting cargoes, but also for other persons as well who in any other way handle dangerous substances within the area under the management of Port of Rijeka Authority. These operational instructions summarize most relevant regulations referring to the stay within the port of a ship carrying dangerous or polluting cargo and they do not exclude the application of other national and international standards and regulations which treat the handling and carriage of dangerous cargoes
