We need to wait until we have priests whom we do not need. If that comes, then that would be the time to dispose them by sending them to mission. But again mission work should not be thought that way. That is not the way we think of generosity. True and authentic generosity happens when we give, even if we badly we need it. I know I need this shirt, but I am also aware that the other badly needs it, so I make a sacrifice. It pains to give. WHO ARE WE?

he Mission Society of the Philippines (MSP) is a Society of Apostolic Life of Pontifical Right for mission ad gentes. It received its pontifical right status on January 6, 2009 from the Vatican's Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples (CEP). Having been established by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), the MSP serves as the official and chief missionary arm of the Catholic Church of the Philippines. Since its inception in 1965, the MSP now has been working in five continents and twelve countries. In Asia, the MSP has missions in Thailand, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea. In Oceania, it serves in Papua New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, and Cook Islands. In Europe, it is present in the Netherlands and in England. In North The founding of a Mission Society of the Philippines is a serious step America, it is present in the United States of America, while in South in our history as a Christian country. It deserves the best of our generosity, our dedication, and our zeal. We appeal to our clergy and faithful to America, it has a mission in Guyana. The MSP envisions this gift of faith in Christ to have been lived and cooperate with this missionary movement of ours and, if it be the Divine shared in love by all, most especially the peoples in Asia. Our mission- will, to consider volunteering for the foreign missions."

Simultaneous with the Fourth Centennial Calebration of our birth as a Christian nation in 1965, we will found this Society and lay the cornerstone of its seminary in Cebu. Its official patron will be the same Child Jesus whose image will be canonically crowned during the celebration. To be composed, first of all, of diocesan priests, the Foreign Mission Society of the Philippines will eventually embrace, we hope, a brotherhood, a sisterhood, and a lay missionary counterpart. The Society will accept "full members" and "associate members", these latter to be loaned and aided for a time by a diocese. Mindful of the particular needs and traits of our people, we will adopt a mode of missionary formation and a Constitution expressive of the genius of the Christian Filipino soul.

HISTORY The foundation of the MSP dates back to the year 1965, during which the Catholic Church of the Philippines had celebrated its 400 years of Christianity. At that time, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (then Catholic Welfare Organization) had thought of establishing a missionary society which became a "living memorial" of the Church's gratitude to God for the gift of faith that the Philippine Church received from its early missionaries. The bishops assessed that the Philippine Catholic Church had already come of age and thus, assumed its full commitment to "share with others the faith we have so bountifully received." This plan to establish the MSP was captured in the Statement of the Philippine Hierarchy on the Formation of the Foreign Mission Society. The following is an excerpt of the document which was signed by H.E. Archbishop JULIO R. ROSALES, DD, then President of the Catholic Welfare Organization: "Desirous to fulfill our divine commission to preach the Gospel to every creature, we, the Catholic Hierarchy of the Philippines, herewith declare our firm determination to share the light of the Faith with our less fortunate neighbors. It is our conviction that we, as a Christian nation, have reached a mature stage in our four centuries of development and that we are prepared to assume the responsibilities of such maturity. We, therefore, proclaim officially our intention to undertake a national effort to orient our people to the missions. To achieve this and to express in the concrete our gratitude to God for the gift of our Faith, we will organize the Foreign Mission Society of the Philippines.

ODAY is Filipino Mission Sunday. This year's celebration is doubly significant as the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has deemed that the Church in the Philippines should celebrate the year 2012 as the Year of the Missions.

Our celebration this Sunday is meant to foster awareness of all Filipino Catholics about the work and ministry of our Filipino missionaries - both lay and ordained. This is the reason the bishops of the Philippines have decreed that the last week of July be especially dedicated to Filipino missionaries. We are invited to support these missionaries through our prayers and through our material assistance. This is our humble offering to their ministry of proclaiming the love of God to all the ends of the earth. This celebration also commemorates the establishment of our first local missionary arm of the Catholic Church in the Philippines - the Mission Society of the Philippines (MSP). When the Philippine Church celebrated the 400th year of Christianity in the country in 1965, the CBCP established the society of priests whose mission it is to bring the message of salvation to other parts of the country and to the rest of Asia and the world. With the MSP, the Filipino Church evolved from a "mission-receiving" Church to a "mission-sending one. In Asia, the Mission Society of the Philippines has missions in Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea. The MSP has missions in Oceania - Papua New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, the Cook Islands, and American Samoa; in Europe - the Netherlands and England; in North America - United States of America; and in South America - Guyana. We hope and pray that as we celebrate Filipino Mission Sunday this year with the theme "Faith received... Faith Shared," we may all realize that we all have a part in building the kingdom of God on earth. May we also acknowledge that faith, aside from being a gift that we have received, is also our responsibility. We have the responsibility to live it and share it with others. May the holiness and courage of San Lorenzo Ruiz and Blessed Pedro Calungsod - both missionaries and proclaimers of the gospel - inspire us to take up the challenge posed by the Church in this "Era of New Evangelization."

Jason Strother Last updated on: March 14, 2012 8:00 PM uring the past decade, tens of thousands of South Korean men have married women from other countries, mostly in Southeast Asia. There is concern now their children will have difficultly fitting into Korean society and the education system. So earlier this month, the government opened up a high school just for them. Classes began earlier this month at the Seoul Dasom High School for multi-cultural children. Dasom has 48 students who have grown up abroad and have one Korean parent or stepparent. Liang Man Ni, 18, moved with her Korean mother and Chinese father to Seoul from China in 2009. She said she likes the school a lot and has made friends with students from Japan, Hong Kong and Vietnam. Learning language and skills Dasom, which is an old Korean word for love, aims to teach these students the Korean language and also give them training for jobs in the tourism or multimedia industries. Kim Jee-hye teaches English at Dasom. She said the high school gives an introduction to life in Korea for many of the students here. "Our goal is to help them adjust themselves to Korean society. They have a lot of difficulties here, not only language difficulties, the difficulty that is based on their different cultural views. We want them to Koreanize in a way," said Kim. But the Dasom school is not just for students who were raised overseas. Administrators say children born into multicultural families in Korea might need to enroll here, too. Broadening educational net That is because many of these kids are not

going to school at all. A recent survey found that up to 31 percent of children with a foreign parent stay home and do not learn Korean proficiently. Seoul National University sociologist Chung Chin-sung, who served on the government panel that created the school, said officials were worried these children will fall through the cracks of society when they get older. In 2010, children born to parents of mixed heritage counted for about five-percent of all

why these children have a hard time fitting into Korean society. "Children of these multi-cultural families have the experience to be isolated. Mostly their academic records are very low," said Chung. Chung said Dasom high school might provide these kids a last chance to learn Korean and not fall behind their piers at mainstream schools. Some advocates worry, though, that segregating these children into their own school will do more harm than good. Potential negative effects Ahn Hyun-suk runs a counseling center Students at the Seoul Dasom High School for Multicultural for multicultural families and children Children take Korean as a sec- in Seoul, and said the idea of an alterond language class, March 2012 native school for these children can have many negative effects. generous. So the members of the Mission Society of the Philippines, who are working in 12 countries (Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Papua New Guinea, Cook Islands, Tokelau, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, US, Guyana), are a testament to the generosity of the Catholic Church in the Philippines. Now, it is the turn of the Filipino faithful to be generous too. How? First, be generous to the MSP by praying for them. Mission work is not easy. It is full of challenges and difficulties. Thus, we need your ardent prayers. Second, be generous to the MSP by offering material support. The existence of the MSP depends on your financial support which will be used for the formation of seminarians and sustenance of its members. Missionary work is every believers business. By virtue of our baptism and confirmation, we promised to God to preach the gospel to others. Not all of us can do that literally, but the Church in the Philippines has the Mission Society of the Philippines to represent her to the world. Therefore, we, the MSP, deserve your support. Please support the priests of the Mission Society of the Philippines! Happy Fil-Mission Sunday to everyone!

Below are the guidelines to be a good missionary: 1. Use words sparingly. Know when to talk or when to keep your mouth shut. 2. Use words of encouragement. Encourage people rather than condemn them because it yields good results. 3. Use words of benediction. Anything that comes out of your mouth will come back to you. If you bless, you will be blessed. If you curse, you will be cursed. 4. Use words of triumph. Always utter the words that leads us to success. Always be positive. Sr Angel also shared the result of a survey about the words that a person wants and doesn't want to hear. "You are hopeless." The words that kids don't want to hear from their parents. "What have you done for me?" The words that parents don't want to hear from their children.

"You embarrassed me!" The words that both parents and kids don't want to hear. "You are the most special person in the world." The words that kids want to hear from their parents. "I respect you." The words that parents want to hear from their children. "I love you!" The words that both parents and kids want to hear. "There is no one like you." The words that husband wants to hear from their wife. "You are the best thing that ever happen to me." The words that wife wants to hear from their husband. To summarize, words can change life. The power of words can be the best thing and can be the worst. Be careful in choosing the words. God said to us: "You are precious in my life and I love you. I will never forget you. I love you as you are. Come as you are." We encourage everyone to join the monthly 1st Saturday Vigil. It helps us grow spiritually.

by Gil Tenorio ecause Im an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) and there are many Filipinos working abroad, I would like to take this time to give some tips and share some pieces of advice to them especially for new OFWs. In my family, we are three OFWs. First is my father who worked in Saudi for more than 10 years and my sister who worked in Syria for three years. I would say it is really hard to work in a foreign land particularly if your job is a difficult one like if youre a house helper, construction worker or a seaman. There are lots of reasons why Filipinos want to work abroad but it boils to one major goal: to get a higher salary or income. I believe it is the greatest factor why anyone would go to a foreign land to work without knowing what will happen to him or her in that place. Some people considered OFWs as the new heroes because they help to boost the Philippine economy through the billion-dollar remittances they sent to our country every year. Personally, I dont think Im a hero only because of that. Being a hero is a different level for me, it involves sacrifices and unselfish interest for the sake of the countrys benefits. For new OFWs, I would like to give you some tips on how to take care of your finances before and after working abroad. Ive been working here in South Korea for more than 4 years and Im thankful I learned about personal finance and investing through reading books, blogs and discussions with my co-Filipino workers. I would say there is a very small percentage of OFWs who are financially educated. I would like to give an example to back-up my assumption here. First and foremost, Ive been receiving many emails and comments from this blog how to open a savings account among OFWs around the world. Whats the problem about this situation? You are working abroad but you dont have a bank account in the Philippines?

First Tip: Before leaving the Philippines, Open a savings account in a reputable bank and enroll that account to Internet banking
Personally, I recommend Bank of the Philippine Islands or BPI because they have one of the best products and services among the banks in our country. I also do have other bank accounts like ChinaBank and Metrobank. It is very important to have your own savings account because it is where you should put your hard-earned money or use when sending money to the Philippines. You should select a popular and established bank so that you can have a guarantee that it will not go bankrupt easily. Your savings account should be enrolled to Internet banking the moment you open a new bank account so that you can monitor your balance and remittances through the Internet and anywhere you are. It will give you much comfort when you can view your account even though you are outside the Philippines.

ents and siblings even though I have my own family. You can apply Express Cash in their own name or to any person you want. The application cost is only P100. You can see this post to give you more idea about how BPI express cash can help you make your remittances faster and more convenient. How to Send Money within the Philippines for free After remitting to my own bank account, I just transfer a certain amount to Express Cash and then the beneficiary can withdraw it anytime after I successfully transferred the money.

Third Tip: If you possibly can, learn how to save and invest
Since you have your own savings account, it is easier now for you to save money from your salary. Normally, if you are working in a company, you will be given a local bank account and use it for your banking needs in that place. You can schedule the frequency of sending money to your Philippine bank so that you could save money on remittance fees. In that way, you can start saving money in your savings account in the Philippines. While working abroad, you could start investing so your money will also work for you. You may begin investing in low-risk or highrisk investments such as UITF, mutual funds, stocks, apartments, online and other types of business. You may start learning how investing works in the following articles I made: Mutual Funds (http://learnfinancialeducation.com/ category/mutual-funds/) UITF (http://learnfinancialeducation.com/category/ uitf/) Stocks (http://learnfinancialeducation.com/ category/stocks/) Business (http://learnfinancialeducation.com/ category/business/)

Second Tip: Arrange a Way on How you can Give Money to your Family without giving them your ATM or Bank Account

There are many OFWs who asked me questions about how to open an account from abroad. Sadly, our banking system does not allow that kind of situation so it is very important to open one before leaving the country. When you are there working for quite sometime, there will come a time that you need to send money to the Philippines especially if you have a family to support. In this case, you should send money to your own savings account in the Philippines not to anybody's account. Since you have online banking, you will know the status of your remittance if it is already credited to your account. I used BPI Ex- Source: http://learnfinancialeducation.com/helpfulfinancial-tips-for-new-ofw/ press Cash as a way to send money to my par-

By Vanessa Ko, for CNN - July 12, 2012 -- Updated 0937 GMT (1737 HKT) ong Kong (CNN) -- As emerging markets slump and the euro zone continues to struggle, the Philippine economy made a surprising surge in the first part of this year. The slowdowns in BRIC countries, China in particular, are feared to drag down the global economy. But in the first quarter of 2012, the Philippine economy grew 6.4%, the fastest since 2010 and already far outpacing the International Monetary Fund's forecast growth of 3.5% for this year. The growth surge was driven in part by a recovery of electronics exports after a decline in demand last year, while analysts say the economy was buoyed by strong domestic consumption. It is the money sent home to the Philippines by its overseas workers, known as remittances, and the rise of outsourced call centers that serve as the long-term stabilizers relatively unhindered by a sagging global economy, according to analysts. "About 70% of our economy is from consumption, so remittance is the key fuel behind that," said Haj Narvaez, Manila-based head of research for the Philippines at Credit-Suisse. "It drives consumption in malls. Even on the property side, the government estimates a third of remittances go into home purchases and rentals of properties." It is estimated that 11% of the population of 92 million work overseas. Remittances account for about 10% of the country's GDP, which totaled $225 billion in 2011. Because Filipinos head to a wide variety of countries to work, the diversity protects them from the full impact of regional economic troubles. The Middle East has the largest portion of the Philippines' overseas

labor force, with 61% working there. Asia is the next highest, with 27%, followed by the 6% in Europe. Moreover, these migrants often work as domestic workers, nurses or skilled technicians, types of jobs that are believed to be less vulnerable during an economic slowdown. "You have an aging population in the West, and you have a young population here in the Philippines that is waiting to do jobs that some people in the West aren't willing to do," Narvaez said. Another sector that has helped drive consumption is the call center industry, which has overtaken India's as the largest over the past decade. These jobs are considered well - paid -- enough for workers to afford, after several years' employment, down payments on condominiums in Manila's booming property market, Narvaez said. These jobs could leave the country structurally well positioned going into a slowdown; as wealthier economies seek to cut costs, they tend to increase outsourcing to low-cost, English-speaking markets like the Philippines. Singapore-based Edward Teather, the senior economist for ASEAN at UBS, said the Philippines has experienced "a virtuous circle of improved stability" with more investments, lower inflation, currency valuations going up and interest rates coming down. Other factors that have aided in the country's growth early this year are the transfer of operations to the Philippines from Thailand by flooddisrupted businesses, said Teather, as well as improved electronics exports. While most analysts are optimistic, they do not expect growth for the year to be maintained at the first quarter's level -- Bloomberg's compiled predictions for GDP growth in 2012 averages at 4.2%.

An Inspiration to all...a celebration of Love in Hot Summer by Sis. Angel C. Libron, SSpss grew up seeing my parents as best friend to each other. Therefore, when Mama was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1986, Papa suffered much from "separation anxiety". The thought of being left behind caused him much stress that after a year he had his first stroke. That 1987 stroke made Papa half-paralyzed and his speech almost gone.Papa was quiet by nature. He was a man of few words. He expressed his love to Mama through his gift of touch (skinship) and the gift of presence. They were inseparable even in sickness and old age. Although his hand had no more strength and feeling, he would volunteer to massage Mama's aching body. Papa went to God's side in 2004. In 2006, on Mother's Day, I wrote this as Papa's voice, imagining what Papa would say to Mama. To Mama, on Mother's Day (by Angel) Grandma, if Lolo were still with us, these are what we would surely hear him say to you. Thank you, Bee for overlooking our big differences in personality and instead just focusing on our mutual exchange of love and how we complement each other; for taking the sacrifice to give up your great love for dancing because I was born with two left feet. You could have enjoyed the parties more if you had a dancing partner. you are fast yet you patiently adjust to my slow and laid-back pace;

you are intelligent and articulate and love talking yet you do not let my quietness upset you; for standing behind me and building up my self-confidence; for sharing your strong faith in God with me and showing me the happiness of constantly reaching out to others in compassion and charity

Thank you, Bee for the joys we shared when we dated just by ourselves on Saturdays, taking your time-off from mothering when the kids were still small and in later years, the nightly bonding-walk around the village after dinner; for not letting the sun set on our side with a quarrel and for reminding me of this wisdom; for waking me up when I forget to kiss you goodnight saying it might be our last; for closing our day with I love you;

for our praying and going to Holy Mass daily together for unabashedly kissing me at Holy Mass during the kiss of peace at that time when hardly any couple was doing it yet Thank you, Bee in my sickness you faithfully stand by me; you love food so much but was quick to change to a simple diet for my sake; you lovingly prepare my meals and always insist that my meal tray does not look like the typical hospital food tray; ... for also insiting that the meals are not taken in the bedroom but in the living room or dining room, thus making meal time more pleasant; for changing my diapers three times a day even if they were not really soiled yet; for regularly giving me my daily bath making sure I look well-groomed and not look like a sick man; when I lose balance and fall, you pick me up from the floor with the whole weight of my heavy body on you; for the many times you try to forget that you are sick just so I could get better. Dear Bee, the list could go endless but what I want to tell you now is thank you for loving me as simply me and for gratefully accepting all the love that I offer you. Happy Mothers Day to you, my dear Wife SAM May 14, 2006

The Lamb's Supper: The Bible and the Mass

(Editors note: This is the 15th part of the Online Bible Study course on the subject taken from the website of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Studies http://www.salvationhistory.com/)

Lesson Six: Memory and Presence: Communion as the Coming of Christ continuation ...
III. At the Lambs Supper
A. Giving Us Our Daily Bread From these texts we can understand the tradition handed on to us by the apostles - that Christ is "our paschal lamb" (see 1 Corinthains 5:7) - whose blood was shed for our salvation, and whose flesh and blood we eat and drink in remembrance that salvific act. We profess this faith in every Mass, making the words of Scripture our own. The priest presents the consecrated bread to us with Johns words: "Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world" (see John 1:29). He follows these words with words drawn from Johns Revelation, which allude to the wedding supper of the Lamb ("Happy are those . . . " see Revelation 19:9). As we explored in Lesson 5, in the Eucharist we join ourselves to a cosmic liturgy, described in Revelation as a heavenly wedding feast. As is appropriate for a wedding feast, we introduce the Communion Rite of the Mass by praying the family prayer that Jesus taught us (see Matthew 6:9-13;Luke 11:2-4). In the context of the Mass, the petitions of the Our Father take on new meaning. We might even say that the Mass fulfills the Lords Prayer word for word. In the Mass, we hallow or glorify His name and ask Him to forgive our trespasses. The Sign of Peace symbolizes our forgiveness of those whove trespassed against us - as we offer a gesture of reconciliation before approaching he altar (see Matthew 5:23-24; John 14:27). In the Mass, the Father gives us our "daily bread." In fact, epiousios, the word translated "daily," is a Greek word found only in the Lords Prayer. Its exact meaning has puzzled translators and scholars for more than 20 centuries now. Its interesting to note, however, that the idea and expression "to give bread" seems to trace back to the primordial experience of God giving the Israelites a daily portion of bread from heaven as they sojourned in the wilderness (see Exodus 16:4; Psalm 78:24). The giving of bread becomes an image of Gods care and salvation elsewhere in the Old Testament (see Psalm 107:9; 146:7; Proverbs 30:8-9). Jesus refers to the original wilderness experience in His Passover sermon at Capernaum - saying that our "Father gives you the true bread from heaven" (see John 6:32). The idea of giving bread occurs only in a few other places in the Gospels. But those places are all highly suggestive. In fact, each time it

appears, it is in a scene heavy with Eucharistic overtones. Jesus takes, blesses, breaks, and gives bread in His miraculous multiplication of the loaves (see Mark 6:41; 8:6; Matthew 15:36; John 6:11); at the last supper (see Mark 14:22; Matthew 26:26); and at Emmaus after His resurrection (see Luke 24:30). So, too, in the Mass, he comes to give us our daily bread. By this bread we are strengthened against temptation, and promised deliverance from evil. In the Mass, were blessed to be able to eat bread in the kingdom of God, as Jesus promised (see Luke 14:15). Indeed, in the cosmic liturgy of the Eucharist, the kingdom has come on earth as it is in heaven. Thats why the early Christians recited a short "doxology," after saying the Lords Prayer during the Mass. We still pray their doxology ("For the kingdom, the power, and the glory . . . ") in our Mass. B. Until He Comes Again In the earliest Eucharistic celebrations, the first believers also prayed a short prayer for the coming of the Lord in glory: "Come, Lord Jesus!" The prayer - an Aramaic expression, Marana tha - is also found in the New Testament where it also evokes the Eucharistic setting (see 1 Corinthians 16:22; Revelation 22:17, 20). The early Christians looked forward to the second "coming" of the Lord. The Lords coming in glory was anticipated as a time when He would finally reveal himself and call all peoples into His presence for judgment (see Matthew 24:27; 1 Thessalonians 2:19; 3:13; 2 Thessalonians 2:1,8; 1 John 2:28). Parousia (pronounced: PAHR-oo-SEE-uh) the Greek word used by the New Testament writers for this "coming" means both "advent" or "arrival" and "bodily presence." For instance, Paul uses parousia to describe his own immediate bodily presence, which he admits is, while real, not striking or imposing (see 2 Corinthians 10:10; Philippians 2:12). Outside the Bible, parousia came to be an official term for the visit of a king or emperor. And the first Christians saw the Eucharist as a parousia. "For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until He comes," Paul wrote (see 1 Corinthians 11:26). Pauls words are still heard in our Eucharist celebrations today - one of three options for proclaiming the Mystery of the Faith following the consecration of the bread and wine. Very early, Christians began praying, also as we still do, "Hosanna . . . blessed is he who comes in the Lord" in their celebrations of the Eucharist (see Matthew 21:9). Jesus himself had said, one the threshold of His passion: "I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord" (see Matthew 23:39). And we see Him when we say this prayer in the Mass. In every Eucharist, He fulfills His promise to be with us until the end of the age

(see Matthew 28:20). The Eucharist is His coming, the parousia, the Real Presence of Christ. In the Eucharist we have the bodily presence of Christ, the coming of the king who stands at the right hand of God (see Acts 7:56). In describing His "coming," Jesus said that "this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place" (see Matthew 24:34). And at the last supper, He said He would not drink wine "until the kingdom of God comes" (see Luke 22:18). A moment later, He told the apostles: "I confer a kingdom on you . . . that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel" (see Luke 22:29-30). These same images are found in Johns vision of the cosmic liturgy - the wedding feast of the Lamb (see Revelation 19:9); Jesus as the Word of God and the King of Kings (see Revelation 19:13,16); the kingdom of priests who reign with him (see Revelation 5:10; 20:6); the thrones of judgment (see Revelation 20:12); the "apostles of the Lamb" and the "twelve tribes of the Israelites" (see Revelation 21:1014). C. A Share in His Body and Blood Whenever the New Testament speaks of Christs coming, it speaks also of His judgment. The Eucharistic parousia is a real presence Christ coming in power to judge. This is why we must come worthily to the celebration. As Paul warned, if we do not acknowledge come worthily, we eat and drink judgment upon ourselves (see 1 Corinthians 11:27-32). This is why before we pray the words of the centurion while on our knees before receiving communion, "Lord, I am not worthy . . . " (see Matthew 8:8). We are not worthy to be visited by our Lord. And yet He makes us worthy. He grants us "participation" (koinonia, "communion" or "sharing") in His body and blood (see 1 Corinthians 10:16). Through this Eucharist we "come to share (koinonia) in the divine nature" (see 2 Peter 1:4). This participation, this sharing is the goal of all of salvation history, the blessing that God desired to bestow on all peoples. It is a history that begins "in the beginning," as we read on the Bibles first page, and continues in every Mass, in which we echo the prayer found on the Bibles last page - "Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!" (see Revelation 22:20). And with every coming of the Lord in the Eucharist we anticipate that final coming, when death will be defeated, and He will hand over the kingdom to His Father, and God will be all in all (see 1 Corinthians 15:23-28). In the Eucharist we receive what will be for all eternity, when we are finally taken up to heaven to join with the heavenly throng in the marriage supper of the Lamb. At Holy Communion we are already there.

IV. Discussion Questions

What does it mean in the Old Testament when God is said to "remember"? What did Israel remember in its ritual worship? Explain how Israels remembrance of its covenant brought the people into a mysterious sharing of the covenant made with their ancestors. How and why does the New Testament describe Christ as a new "paschal lamb"? What does parousia mean? Why do we say that the Eucharist is parousia?

The ministry said 4,700 small- and mediumsized enterprises currently hire a total of 46,000 migrant employees. We specifically target these firms, as theyre in a better financial condition compared with much smaller companies with fewer employees, Jang said. Employers violating the law twice or more will be prohibited from hiring E-9 visa holders. The ministry will also urge firms with between 30 and 49 workers to put a priority on hiring locals over foreigners. We have not come up with a specific plan yet but those companies will include those paying higher wages or located in bigger cities, Jang said.

The city will also set up more public health centers by 2014, so that one clinic will only have to handle 50,000 to 70,000 people from the current 700,000. It will establish hospitals specializing in diseases related to senility, have 50 private clinics open at night and on weekends, and increase free vaccinations for children.

Insomnia patients up 85% in 5 years

By Kim Bo-eun leeplessness in Seoul has increased by 84.6 percent or by a yearly average of 16.7 percent points over the past five years, according to the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service. Its report showed that the number of patients went up to 383,000 last year, from 207,000 in 2007. Increased stress levels amid the economic slump are the main causes, said Han Jin-kyu, head of the Seoul Sleep Center. People work even when they need to take a rest. Han also attributed difficulty in sleeping to the frequent use of digital devices. More people are now exposed to LCD and LED light sources from the devices, and their stimulating effects may be contributing to the disorder, he said. In the report, more women were found to suffer from inability to sleep than men, with their figure 1.7 times greater. Menopause entails trouble sleeping. Older women are also subject to greater stress levels as their husbands retire and they need to prepare for their later years, he said. The report also showed that those in their 50s and older accounted for 65.6 percent of insomnia patients in 2011. The elderly in general have more sleep disorders as their brain functions deteriorate. Older people are also more likely to have illnesses such as diabetes or cardiovascular disorders that disrupt sleep, Han added. The total tab for insomnia treatment rose by 112.9 percent to 22.9 billion won spent in 2011 from 10.7 billion won in 2007. If the sleeping disorder is related to other physical or mental disorders, they should be attended to first, said Han. And one needs to reflect on ones daily routine and find where the problem stems from. Han emphasized the importance of aligning ones daily routine with natural light. It is important to get up and see natural light before 9 a.m. in order to fall asleep before 12 a.m. Koreans have an active night life, but one should go to sleep when it gets dark. Sleeping pills are only a temporary resolution, so a person suffering from insomnia should try to pinpoint the cause in order to really solve the problem, he said

UPDATE FROM THE PHILIPPINE EMBASSY

OAV Registration Ongoing at the Philippine Embassy Filipinos in South Korea who intend to vote here for the senatorial and party-list elections in May 2013 are reminded to register as overseas absentee voters at the Philippine Embassy in Seoul. Registration started on 2 November 2011 and will continue until 31 October 2012. Registration is available from Monday to Friday during regular office hours, except during declared holidays. Filipinos may also register every first and third Sunday of the month, coinciding with the special service for passport renewals in the morning. Although the registration period is for one year, I encourage everyone to register early and not to wait until the last minute to have their names included in the roster of those eligible to vote in 2013, said Amb. Luis Cruz. This will prevent potential problems associated with rushed applications, he added. Registrants only need to present a valid proof of Philippine citizenship, such as a passport. Those who intend to change their voting places in 2013, such as those returning for good to the Philippines, can also have their records transferred by the Philippine Embassy. Mobile registration services, done alongside with mobile passport services, to other parts of South Korea will be announced later on. For inquiries, please email seoulpe@philembassy-seoul.com.
