PREFACE
This handbook was prepared by Standards Australia in consultation with the Nation Office for the Information Economy (NOIE) (now the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts), project subcontractors Red Wahoo and an industry based advisory panel. It is an historical record of the outputs of two projects conducted by the project team which developed a national e-business framework, registry and toolkit concepts, collectively known as BizDex. A working group managed by Standards Australia, consisting of representatives from the vendor, service provider, government agencies, standards and end-user communities provided strategic direction and oversight for the projects.

These concepts were further demonstrated in a further project in which a large buyer in the wheat industry automated the grain ticket business process between its enterprise management software application (SAP) and an office management software application (Quicken) used by many of the 40,000 small businesses it trades with. It successfully demonstrated how the BizDex infrastructure could be used to connect a trading community. This document forms part of a series consisting of: HB 310BizDexA framework for registry operations. HB 311B2B registry service Detailed specification. FOREWORD
The objective of the BizDex Framework is to enable enterprises irrelevant of their business specialization and size to readily engage with trading partners through a B2B framework, which supports low cost and scaleable interoperability. This vision is underpinned by a three-axis strategy:

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This Handbook takes the Grain Ticket Delivery Receipt Notification which is a common process interaction between Bulk Handlers and Growers in the vertical gain industry and models it into a simplified public process that is suitable for the POC at the end of phase 1. The end result is a Public Process XML schema based on the BPSS standard. It should be noted that simplification measures have been taken to facilitate the ease of demonstration of this process during the POC. However, this POC public process has gone through all the required UML modelling steps recommended for more complete and robust public process creation.

STANDARDS AUSTRALIA Australian Handbook Grain ticket delivery receipt POC public process implementation guidelines S E CT ION
1.1 GENERAL This Handbook begins by summarizing a couple of key concepts of scalable e-Business interoperability introduced in the BizDex Framework, BizLink Requirements, Governance Requirements, and BizLib Requirements documents. Separation of Public process design from e-Business Infrastructure. In other words, public business process design should be based solely on business requirements. In the BizLink requirements document you will see statements such as BizLink must be data driven. This is a manifestation of this separation. Imagine, if you tried to design a public invoice process taking in the consideration all of the constraints and/or functionalities of every invoicing capable application on the market. If public processes are a key component to scalable interoperability there must be a way to store and access in the public domain; a defined reusable methodology to develop them; and a governance procedure to insure certification, compliance, and change management of these processes.

The purpose of the document is to produce a POC Public Process for the Grain Ticket Delivery Receipt Notification Process: This document, using UML modelling methods, will present the Grain Ticket Use Case and Activity Diagrams; present a Transactional and Informational analysis of the process; and present a POC Public Process for this Grain Ticket Delivery Receipt Notification process using a BPSS process schema.

1.2 ABOUT THE DOCUMENT 1.2.1 Goals The goal of this document is to create a POC Public Process for the Grain Ticket Delivery Receipt Notification Process. Also, while this process is purposefully simplified for the POC, the UML methodologies applied are the same for as they would be for a more rigorous and thorough approach. 1.2.2 Audience This document is written for project members who will ultimately be in the involved in implemented a given POC with either a Large Enterprise or a Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) application. This document is also intended for any reader wishing to gain additional understanding of public process design. 1.2.3 Required Knowledge The reader should have the basic knowledge of business process design.

2.1 THE USE CASE 2.1.1 Grain vertical industry and business area identification For presentation of a vertical use case, the wheat grain vertical is chosen. In the context of an SME, these use cases involve the interaction between a Grower and the Grain Industry. Today, there are approximately 40,000 growers of wheat interacting with around 5 Bulk Handlers and 10 Marketers. Since the reader may not be familiar with this industry, the interactions between growers and the grain industry are shown below in figure 1 followed by a brief definition of the actors and the business areas.
