Collection of nearly 3 million film stills, movie posters, pin-ups headed to auction block
NEW YORK Movie Star News amassed a staggering amount of film stills, posters and negatives over the past 73 years nearly 3 million, including 1,500 prints of Bettie Page, known as the queen of pin-ups. The legendary Manhattan store credited with creating pin-up art had sold its entire inventory to a Las Vegas collectibles company. The collection, regarded as one of the largest of its kind, is headed for the auction block. It will be sold in a series of sales slated to begin next year. The bulk of the collection covers the years 1939 to 1979; 11,500 movies and 5,000 actors are represented. "This is the most important photo archive of Hollywood in existence. There are tens of thousands of negatives that have never been reproduced," said Stuart Scheinman, co-owner of Entertainment Collectibles, which bought the collection. "There are images here that have never been seen by the public."

. . . Rare
What made this find so special was that the 700 cards were nearly pristine, the finest examples anyone had ever seen from an extremely rare series given out with candy around 1910. The best of the bunch was sold in three lots one, which sold for $286,800, was a nearly complete E98 set, the name of the the series the cards were issued under, and another was a Honus Wagner card that was judged to be in perfect condition by Professional Sports Authenticator, a company that grades cards on a 1-to-10 scale based of their condition. It brought $239,000. A third group of baseball cards fetched $40,332. Prices included buyers' premiums. The highest price ever paid for a baseball card is $2.8 million for a different
Wagner card a 1909 version produced by the American Tobacco Co. and included in packs of cigarettes. Only about 60 of Wagner's tobacco cards are known to exist after being pulled from circulation, either because the ballplayer didn't want to encourage smoking among children or because he wanted more money. Sports card experts who authenticated the find in Ohio say they came across dozens of cards that were just about perfect. Karl Kissner, who discovered the cards in February in the town of Defiance with Hench, his cousin, said they belonged to their grandfather, Carl Hench, who died in the 1940s. They think he gave away the cards at his meat market and stashed the extras in his attic and forgot about them. The Hench familydecided to evenly split and sell the cards with some of the proceeds going to charity.

. . Championship continued
In 2004, he started an announcing business, which eventually led him to enroll at Missouri Auction School. Following auction school, Ochss career gained momentum rapidly as s o m e o f t h e largest auction companies in the world contracted his services. In 2009, Ochs was presented an opportunity to try out for the esteemed Barrett-Jackson, The Worlds Greatest Collector Car Auction, and secured a position on the auction team during the live-broadcast on the SPEED channel. I believe auctioneers will continue to play a vital role in the economy in the next five years, especially in real estate, Ochs noted. There are a ton of vacant properties on the books that haven't even hit the market yet, and the auction method of accelerated marketing will realize fair market value for these properties. Along with the women's division cham pion, Lynne Zink, Ochs will serve as a spokesperson and ambassador for the quarter-trillion dollar auction industry. He lives in Hendersonville, Tenn., with Kelly, his wife, and their son, Weston. Ochs currently serves as a director on th e Te n n e s s e e A u c t i o n e e r ' s Association board and is the 2010 Tennessee Bid Calling Champion. He has also been a member of the auction staff for the All American Quarter Horse Congress Super Sale in Columbus, Ohio, the AQHA World Championship Sale in Oklahoma City, Okla. and Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers in Nashville. Diamond Ochs Enterprises LLC specializes in auction marketing and sale of Middle Tennessee residential and commercial real estate, farms and land, along with farm machinery, heavy equipment and other assets.
