First impressions Our first destination in Cambodia was Phnom Penh.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the wet weather there! Our Cambodian friends gave us a warm welcome by presenting us with what they called the 'Cambodian welcome'. <insert cricket sounds> Student Centre in Phnom Penh We stayed at the Student Centre, which was run by OMF, in Phnom Penh. It was located directly opposite a HUGE house, which we were told was lived in by a person from the Army. The longer we were in the city, the more exposed we were to the rich-poor divide in Phnom Penh; especially after we visited the slums. The rich there were really rich, and the poor... well, lets allow the images to speak for themselves. Life in the Student Centre Three Cambodian university students live at the Student Centre. We were touched by how hospitable they were; 2 of them vacated their rooms and moved into the third's room, and we were given their room! Ministry in PP The Student Centre is also the Cambodian Christian Fellowship's meeting and training venue. While we were there, we participated in their Bible Studies, and also went for their Prayer Meetings. Ministry in PP - Student ministry Under the direction of the missionaries, Fery and Hena Pasang, we visited a few universities in Phnom Penh. There, we talked to some of the students who shared with us their struggles and ambitions. Some of the students there lead very busy lives; they were studying to obtain two degrees from two different universities simultaneously, and even juggling a job to support themselves financially! These same students were invited to our sports outreach programme, that were held on both Saturdays while we were in Phnom Penh. Ministry in PP - workshops As the ministry we were under in Phnom Penh was a relatively new ministry, we were asked to lead a workshop about worship leading and prayer meetings. Through this workshop, we shared with the Khmer students our experiences with our respective churches and student fellowships. It was a mutually-edifying process, as we were blessed sharing our experiences, and we believe the Khmer students were blessed too! Sundays in Cambodia In both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, we were given the opportunity to attend different Khmer churches. Possibly the most different experience was the village church on Dac Island, an island on the outskirts of the city of Phnom Penh. We led a Sunday school lesson there, teaching over 30 children a lesson on prayer! Departure to Siem Reap (and 1st impressions) 2 weeks after we arrived in Phnom Penh, it was time for us to depart to Siem Reap, the ancient capital of Cambodia. After getting down from the bus from a 6-hour ride, we were swarmed by tuk-tuk drivers attempting to solicit our business, all speaking in English! This was initially unusual to us, as few tuk-tuk drivers in Phnom Penh could speak fluent English. We later discovered that Siem Reap was affectionately called 'Disneyland', possibly alluding to the many tourist attractions in and around Siem Reap. Among the more familiar would be Angkor Wat, and Tonle Sap, the largest freshwater lake in South East Asia. Student Centre in Siem Reap In Siem Reap, there was also a Student Centre run by OMF in collaboration with International Teams. The missionaries from OMF were David Narita and his wife, Lara, and the missionaries from International Teams were mainly Pinoy, and we mainly interacted with Fhem and George. The student centre, called Mittrepheap, or 'friendship' in Khmer, also conducts English lessons, guitar tutorials and computer lessons as a means of reaching out to students. Ministry in Siem Reap David, being the main missionary we were placed under, tasked us with a 4-day outreach programme that

we had to plan and execute ourselves. The programme mainly targeted the Siem Reap university students. We came up with a programme which we called "Life's Treasure Hunt", having different games and different themes each day. To promote the event, we went to the universities in Siem Reap and distributed flyers of the programme. To God be the glory, we believe the outreach went well, as an average of 20 participants came each day! We also went to some village churches around Siem Reap, and there, we told some Bible stories to the children. Games were also played, and we were surrounded by the sound of childrens' laughter! The adults were not neglected; we distributed a box of clothes which we brought from Singapore as well. <Fade to black, then Transition screen> Closing of Documentation In Cambodia, we met many Christians who were very passionate for Christ. In fact, we had the privilege of attending a friend's graduation from a Christian degree programme in Siem Reap. He relayed his testimony to us, and concluded with, "I want to give my life for God's kingdom!" Boarding the plane back to Singapore was a bittersweet event; we were looking forward to returning home, yet, we were to leave our Khmer friends. Upon reflection, we were glad to see Christ moving in the hearts and minds of the Khmer people, and were thoroughly blessed by them!
