Historical exhibition 100 years of municipal cleaning Historical equipment and vehicles will be shown on the occasion of this 100-year anniversary. German Association of Local Utilities (VKU), Messe Mnchen International Special Exhibition Water is future The special exhibition Water is Future gives an extensive overview of the threats facing water supplies and ways of protecting this vital resource. The information is attractively presented in five theme stations, a model of a protected drinking water catchment area, a guess-the-water-sound game, a water man, quiz terminals and columns with backlit visuals. Here visitors learn about a wide range of topics, among them life in water, use of water, natural disasters, climate change, water in our cities and sustainable water management. Vereinigung Deutscher Gewsserschutz e.V. (VDG) Special Exhibition: Treasure Trove Cell Phone On over 100 m2, the special exhibition called Treasure Trove Cell Phone examines the cell phone, the raw materials contained within it, and the recovery processes. An interactive 3D jigsaw puzzle illustrates which raw materials are built into cell phones. At a series of action columns visitors find out how these raw materials can be recovered and which methods and processes are involved, from collection of old cell phones to extraction, processing and re-processing of the materials for further use. Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Public Health (StMUG) Messe Mnchen International Trucks in Action Experience live modern, task-specific vehicle solutions. From waste disposal to street cleaning, from snow clearing and sanding to special operationsthis is where you get up-to-date on the most important trends and developments. In times of the ever growing scarcity of resources the order of the day is to use water sparingly and utilize the valuable constituents contained within water. Just as important is safe energy supply. In view of the looming problems, many technical engineering efforts focus on increasing energy efficiency and using more renewable energy sources. Innovative concepts and technologies make it possible to tap even an energy source that has only been discussed as a disposal problem previously: our wastewater. Such innovative solutions have therefore been the subject of this years international Huber Technology Prize 2012 Future Water. The winners will be announced and prizes handed over on 8 May 2012 at the official award ceremony. FEAD General Assembly European Federation of Waste Management and Environmental Services (FEAD) Conferment of the Creative Award 2012, followed by evening event 100 Years of Municipal City Cleaning German Association of Local Utilities (VKU) Moving up the waste hierarchybest practice examples The waste management sector welcomes the focus of the European Commission on a better enforcement of waste legislation. Ensuring a legislative level playing field and legal certainty is key for a fair and competitive market. The Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC stipulates the five-step waste hierarchy and sets recycling targets. Further boosting the recycling rates is a central goal of the European Commissions raw materials and resource efficiency roadmap. Most of the new Member States however are still lacking a modern waste management infrastructure. The role of an efficient application of the cohesion policy during the next funding period in order to create the required infrastructure for sustainable waste management is therefore key. Based on best practice examples from some European member states it will be demonstrated how the right policy mix of legal and economic measures is leading to a continuous moving up of the waste hierarchy.
