Investigating Ancient Egypt

Welcome Year 7 history detectives! You are about to set off on a journey to investigate the way Ancient Egyptians lived and how they were influenced by their geographical location.

Your Task
Your big question is How Does the River Nile and its surrounding environment affect the everyday lives of the Ancient Egyptians You will be working in a team of five and each member will be responsible for investigating one of the five topics below: 1. Beliefs and Customs 2. Clothing/fashion 3. Architecture 4. Trade 5. Leisure entertainment 6. Food and Agriculture

To Get Started
With your group members, decide on who will be investigating what topic. Once your topic is chosen: Step 1: Skim read all tasks for your chosen topic. Level 1: All tasks need to be completed. Level 2: All tasks need to be completed. Level 3: One task needs to be completed. Step 2: Copy and paste your chosen tasks onto the Ancient Egypt Task Sheet. Step3: Start generating your questions.

Locating Information
You will need to use at least three different types of sources i.e. Book, Encyclopedia online, website. Big Ideas Non fiction books Library Webs World Book Online/Advanced World/Early Peoples

Organising Your Information


Use the Research to formulate your questions Use the Note-Making Sheet to take notes. Work on one task at a time Record your sources of information and create a bibliography

Presentation
In the final session you will report back to your team about your investigation of your chosen topic. You will take notes as others present. You will peer assess Complete the River Nile and Its Importance to Ancient Egypt Sheet You will reflect on your learning. NB: You are free to present your tasks in any format. All written tasks are to be completed on A4 and handed in to your teacher in a plastic pocket. Models/journals/maps/booklets are to be handed in separately if they are unable to fit into the plastic pocket.

Assessment
Use the rubric to see what criteria will be assessed in this assignment. The following items must be handed in for assessment Question Sheet Note-making sheet and bibliography All written tasks are to be completed on A4 and handed in to your teacher in a plastic pocket. Models/journals/maps/booklets are to be handed in separately if they are unable to fit into the plastic pocket.
