EID GREETINGS AND CELEBRATING PAKISTAN A very happy Eid ul Fitr to all Muslims around the world after a month long of fasting. For Pakistan the month of August is of special significance as it marks our independence as a sovereign nation. This issue is all about celebrating Pakistan and no one else but Asif Ramzan Shaheed needs special acknowledgment from the nation. Three days ago Asif Shaheed aged 20 years bravely confronted 8 terrorists who planned an attack on Minhas Ai base of Pakistan. This encounter lasted for 15 minutes when he finally faced Shahdat a dream of every soldier. This airbase is named after Rashid Minhas Shaheed, Nishane Haider who also faced Sahahdat at the same age in the month of August in 1976.Air Commodore Azam who is the base commander was also injured in this attack and successfully defended the attack on Pakistan soil. Pakistan Zindabad. LAMHA (SEEDLINGS) GETS INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION
Pakistani feature film Lamha bagged two awards at the New York City International Film Festival (NYCIFF).Lamha, won the Best Feature Film award and its leading lady Amina Sheikh won the Best Actress in Leading Role award at the Angelika Film Center, New York. Lamha, starring Mohib Mirza, Amina Sheikh and Gohar Rasheed is a production of Meher Jaffri and Summer Nicks while a new talent Mansoor Mujahid directed the venture.The film was nominated in five categories including Best Actor in Leading Role (Mohib Mirza), Best Actor in Supporting Role (Gohar Rasheed), Best Score, Best Original Screenplay (Summer Nicks) and Best Director (Mansoor Mujahid). The movie was one of the 100 films out of 3,000 entries to be screened. Source :Business Recorder

CONGRATULATIONS TO VANEEZEH
Vaneezeh Kalim has been nominated on behalf of the group for HBF junior sports person of the year. Vinnie has been playing hockey since year 1 at school and is currently playing for her school team and Westside wolves club. This club also won State championship in 2008 and not only Vinnie played in the team but it was Khusrau Kalim father of Vinnie who coached the team in that season. AREESHA ATEEQ ON LOCAL TV On behalf of our group Areesha Ateeq was provided opportunity to speak to the local TV station. She represented views as newly migrant to Australia and what problems the youth face on arrival. Her interview was part of the migrant Card campaign in which Ethnic Communities Council of WA is collaborating with other organisations. Areesha has recently migrated and settled in perth with her family and is currently a student of year 11.

AYESHA AMJAD: A CANDIDATE FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT A young Pakistani Aisha Amjad will be contesting as ALP candidate for the local government elections on September 8, 2012. She is currently serving as Information officer of the Pakistan Association of Australia and will be a candidate from Hills Shire Council Sydney (North Ward). A lawyer by profession, Aishas passion for politics led her to first work as a media/policy Adviser for Laurie Ferguson in 2005, and also as an Adviser to Federal Minister Tony Burke and Federal Member Ed Husic. She has also worked for the Australian High Commissioner and the Australian Defence Adviser in Islamabad Pakistan. Source :Sadaewatan Sydney SHAYAN ANEEQUE AKHTAR TO MEET BILL GATES

Microsoft founder and philanthropist Bill Gates has invited an intelligent Pakistani student Shayan Anique Akhtar who set a world record in Microsoft Professional Certificate programme. Shayan Anique Akhtar, a student of private school has scored 998 marks out of 1000 and set a new world record in the programme and he is scheduled to meet Bill Gates in July this year on a special invitation of the Microsoft founder. Shayan, who is waiting for his matriculation results, started making computer and mobile games back in 2009 and many international firms appreciated his world and started buying his games from him. PAKISTANI YOUNGSTERS SWEEP THE DEBATING CHAMPIONSHIP

Not only did the Pakistani team win the final against the team from South Korea, but all three participants were listed in the top 10 speakers of tournament. The title was achieved after winning through 6 preliminary rounds, 3 elimination rounds and the grand final. Karachi Grammar School student Zainab Hameed was named the top speaker of the competition while Azeem Liaquat, student of the Salamat International Campus for Advanced Studies in Lahore, came second. Their compatriot, Ahmed Shujaan from the Aitchison College, was not far behind either and bagged the fifth position among more than 200 participants. Source: The Express Tribune

US SCHOLARSHIP FOR A YOUNG PAKISTANI


Shadab Rasool Abro, a student of matriculation and a resident of Khairpur, was given an award as well as a scholarship worth 250,000 dollars by the US State University of New York for presenting his research in the field of Bio Chemical. The student of Pak-Turk School, had conducted a modern research in the field of Bio Chemical and also worked on a project with an amazing result. Through this project the industrial world can be made virus-free and the industrial effluent recycled, he explained. On an invitation from the US State University of News York, Shadab Rasool Abro visited the varsity and performed a successful experiment on the basis of his research. This won him the award and scholarship. 3

INDEPENDENCE DAY IFTAR AT UWA, HACKET HALL


Thank you very much for attending Iftar at Univeristy of Western Australia on the Indpendence Day.Our special thanks to UWAMSA and Zohaib for making it possible. It was a great experience to share an important day with a large number of Muslim students and families.

IFTAR DINNER AT PARLIAMENT HOUSE


The Iftar dinner at Parliament house on 13th August was widely attended by the Muslim leaders and members of parliament including Premier Collin Barnett and Hon. Minister Castrilli. The event was organised by Inter cultural harmony and Baris foundation while Hon. Liz Behjat and Hon. John Hyde were the hosts at the parliament house.

EID DINNER
Congratulations to Umair and Rabeea who are organising an Eid Milan tonight in an attempt to get all Pakistani families together. Their efforts are widely appreciated by every Pakistani and all places were booked within a week after announcement. ADELAIDE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI MEET IN PERTH An alumni cocktail has been arranged for the graduates of Adelaide University in Perth on 28th August. If you are an alumni do register yourself at the university website to meet and network with others.
ICCWA PRESENTS SUICIDE PREVENTION AT THE GRASS ROOTS IN THE SOUTH WEST REGION OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Presented by: Joshua Cunniffe, author of Behind the Smile: A Hidden Battle Against Depression and Shelley OBrien, Assistant Network Coordinator South West Region OneLife Suicide Prevention Strategy. Find out about all the great work being undertaken in the South West Region of Western Australia to develop local suicide prevention activities at the community level. Their guest 19 year-old Joshua Cunniffe, a Lifeline WA Ambassador and Ministerial Council for Suicide Prevention representative, will be presenting his own inspirational story: about his battle with depression and thoughts of suicide, and the issues that affected him in seeking help. Shelley OBrien will speak of her work with the OneLife Suicide Prevention Strategy in the South West region.
