Awesome Menace
By Monideepa Sahu

n Saturday evening, Mansukhani Miss hatched a sinister plot. It was just another parent and teacher meeting at school until Mr. Swaminathan rose to speak. My Kartik is turning into a dumb kid, he said. Whenever he is at home, he has earphones plugged into his head. His mind is somewhere else; as he swings his body to music others cannot hear.

You did that on purpose, cried Divya. Lets complain to the teachers, said her friends. Then they all turned to see the bus driver with earphones plugged into his ears, tuned out to the rest of the world. One teacher said, Awesome! The other teacher shook her head and said, Whatever. Who cares? Sorry Divya, Kartik shrugged. I didnt mean to fall on you. The driver shouldnt have hit the brakes suddenly. Then he also noticed that the bus driver had earphones on, and was lost to the world. When the bus reached school, PT Sir came running, blowing his whistle. He flailed his arms wildly, pointing them in every possible direction. He too had earphones on. Sir, said Kartik loudly. Youre directing us to the playground, but we must go to assembly first. Whatever, said P.T. Sir, as he nodded and swung his hips to some song only he could hear. At assembly, the Principal stood on the

My Divya does the same thing, said Mrs. Puri. Shes always lost in another world. Our children too, cried the other parents. If we tell them anything, they reply using the same two or three words again and again. Is this all they are learning at school? Mansukhani Miss wiped her thick glasses and shook her tight grey bun gravely. It seems to be some silly new fashion. We must do something to drive some sense into the children. On Monday morning, everything seemed as usual until Kartik hopped into the school bus and the brakes screeched. The jolt made Kartik fall right into Divyas lap.

dais wearing earphones, and hummed the latest film tune instead of leading prayers. Then she shrugged, saying Do whatever, and hopped and skipped away as the kids stood staring. Kartik followed his friends into their classroom. Soon, Mansukhani Miss entered swaying her large body. Horror of horrors, she too had earphones stuck in her ears. Her tight bun fell open and strands of grey hair flew around her head like the rays of the sun. Then, she lifted up her sari pallu across her face and took two steps to the right, then three to the left.

Miss, what chapters will be on the test tomorrow? Divya asked, choking back giggles. Who cares? Mansukhani Miss mumbled with a shrug, and resumed her dance. At this rate, we will all fail, said Kartik. Mansukhani Miss danced up the aisle and said, Thats awesome! Then she whipped off her glasses and winked at Kartik. The kids heaved a sigh of relief when the bell rang. When Oberoi Miss arrived next for English class, she too had earphones on. She listened to her music, ignoring the students. Miss, since you arent giving lessons, can we go out and play? Divya asked, testing her luck. Who cares? said Oberoi Miss, still lost in her world of music. What are we waiting for? said Vikram. Lets go! Before Vikram could get out of the class, an iron fist grabbed his collar and pulled him right back into his seat. Oberoi Miss glared at everyone. The others had second thoughts and stayed back in their seats. Miss, can we read some lesson then? Kartik asked.

PRIYA KURIAN

Sshh! Oberoi Miss whispered. Let me listen to this awesome music. When

Kartik tried to read his book in silence, Oberoi Miss marched up to his desk and snapped his book shut. They couldnt study and they werent allowed to go out and play. The kids had to sit through the class doing nothing, while Oberoi Miss nodded, swayed and finally got up and tapped her feet. Miss is so skinny, she looks like a stick trying to dance Kathak, whispered Divya a little too loudly to her friends. Despite wearing earplugs, Miss seemed to have heard every word. She made eye and hand movements like a Bharatnatyam dancer, and pulled a chair and sat right opposite Divya, staring into her face. What could the children do? When the bell rang at last and Oberoi Miss danced out of the class, everyone heaved a sigh of relief. I cant stand this anymore. Lets go and tell the Principal, said Kartik. What if Principal Miss gets angry at us? said Vikram. Im ss...scared. We must tell her. Everyone here has gone crazy, said Divya. She too was acting strangely in the morning assembly, said Kartik. What if she acts as crazily as our teachers acted? Principal is our only hope, said Divya. So with hearts thumping with fear, the children walked into the Principals office and found her reading big book at her desk, with no wires or earphones

dangling from her ears. But when the children began talking, Miss only said whatever, who cares? or awesome, and spoke no other words. Finally, Rahul, the smallest boy in the class, began to whimper. The teachers have gone mad, he cried. What will happen to us? Who will teach us? Kartik tried to console Rahul, while the other children tried bravely to hold back their own tears. Hmm, said Principal Miss. When you stick earphones into your ears or watch TV and pay no attention to your elders at home, its perfectly fine, isnt it? After staring sternly at the children for a few minutes, she offered them her earphones. This will play a recording of me saying awesome, who cares? and whatever again and again as those are the things you like to say the most. No thank you, Miss. We will listen to music at home, but only for a while, said Divya. We need to study and talk and listen to others too. Awesome! said Principal Miss. Excuse me, Miss, said Kartik. Thats wonderful. We do know other words. Principal Miss smiled.

Devious Muskmelons
By Jamshed Aazmi

he devious muskmelons were having a gala in the dense forest as nobody would eat them. The humans, known for their tendency to satiate their taste buds, were unaware that muskmelons could be so delicious and juicy.

The muskmelon climbers would germinate from the seeds and grow hassle-free. After some time, they would bear fruits. This would make the entire ambience of the jungle very pleasant. Having no threat to their existence from anyone, the muskmelons had become cunning and arrogant. They would never let any animal or bird come near them. If that would ever happen by mistake, the muskmelons would scare them off by shouting at them.

KEITH

Time passed and the bright sunlight of summer became harsher. The muskmelons ripened and the pleasant aroma emanating from them pervaded the entire jungle. Some animals couldnt control themselves as this aroma reached their nostrils and began craving to eat the muskmelons. A donkey, allured by this aroma of the muskmelons, arrived there and bent his neck in order to eat them. This incensed Motu. You stupid donkey, what are you trying to do? Do you intend to eat me? He screamed furiously at the donkey. Yes, the entire jungle is infused with your sweet aroma. I couldnt stop myself, so I came over to taste you. The donkey was drooling. WWhat? How dare you? How could you even think about eating a muskmelon? Dont you know muskmelons are not to be eaten? Motu was flummoxed. Yes, Motu is right. Have you ever eaten a muskmelon before? Nothen why have you come to eat us today? My guess is that you are not aware that we taste even more bitter than the bitter gourd, Golu tried to scare him off. The donkey mulled over what he heard for a little while. Then he shook his head and said, I have made my decision. I wont leave without tasting you. If you will taste sweet, then Ill have a breakfast of muskmelons daily. The muskmelons stepped back out of fear upon hearing the donkeys words, but then they gathered courage and said, Dont even think of doing that. We are not ordinary

One day all the muskmelons were enjoying the warmth of the summer sun. Brothers, we are very lucky that we are saved from being the food for animals and birds. We take birth with pride and die peacefully after living a happy life, Motu Muskmelon declared. Yes, and that is the result of our deviousness. If we would have allowed the animals and birds to come near us and been friendly with them, they would have started eating us like grass and leaves, Golu Muskmelon said. You are so right! If the animals would have come near us, they would have eaten us just as they eat carrots and radish, Motu agreed. After that, all the muskmelons began telling boastful stories of their bravery and smartness.

fruits. We have poisonous seeds inside us. You will be dead within seconds of eating us. This threat worked. The donkey got scared stiff and fled away. The muskmelons were happy at having made a fool of him. But this happiness didnt last longer. The next day a vixen arrived there, attracted by the sweet smell of the muskmelons like the donkey. The big size and smell of the muskmelons made her mouth water. She muttered, These fruits are looking so delicious and smelling nice too! They seem to be very succulent and nutritious. I must definitely taste them. She began sniffing close to the muskmelons before eating them. This irritated the muskmelons and they shouted at her in anger, Why are you doing this? Do you intend to die after eating us? Huh! Let my enemies dieI came here to feast on you. The vixen rolled her eyes. Stupid Vixen, dont even try to eat us. We have dangerous seeds inside us. They will reach your stomach and germinate inside. Then green, leafy vines would emerge from your nose and ears. How horrible will you look, just imagine! Lambu Muskmelon painted a very scary picture for the vixen to imagine. Oh no, you are so dangerous and dirty! I dont want to eat you. Saying so, the vixen left. The muskmelons breathed a sigh of relief at her departure. With the passing of days, the temperature began soaring and

this further led to an increase in the poignancy of the muskmelons aroma in the jungle. The alluring smell brought down a group of storks which was flying high in the sky. Their leader screamed in ecstasy, Which fruits are these? They smell so good!! We should eat them and satiate our hunger. Then what are we waiting for? Lets attack on them, All the storks nodded their head in agreement. The big group of the storks intimidated muskmelons. They began hiding behind each other. However, Motu pulled himself up and said, Hey storks, dont dare come near us else be ready for dire consequences. What is this? These fruits talk? Look at how they are trying to scare us off. They must be very delicious; thats why they want to chase us away so that we dont eat them. The storks were surprised. When the muskmelons couldnt see a way out, Golu came up with a plan.

Brothers, these storks wont go away so easily. Some of us should burst open with a loud sound and attack them with the seeds inside us. Maybe we will be able to save ourselves like this. Yes, you are right. We are ready, Some muskmelons agreed to act as per the plan and attacked the storks as already decided. This sudden attack terrified the storks. Their bodies got covered with the sticky seeds of the muskmelons. They had no option but to fly away. The happiness of the muskmelons knew no bounds. This incident also made them overconfident of themselves. Then one day, humans came in that jungle. How could they resist the sweet aroma of the muskmelons? They found them and tried to pluck them. The muskmelons tried to pull their usual trick of scaring them, Dont try to eat us. We are bitter in taste and have poisonous seeds in our stomach. You can get unconscious after eating us. HahahaDear muskmelons, we are humans. You cannot make a fool of us. The humans laughed and dismissed their threat. We are aware that the fruits which have a sweet smell are delicious and packed with nutrition. So we are definitely going to taste you. They cut the muskmelons with a knife and began savouring their treat. The muskmelons realized that their deviousness wont work anymore. Their fun days were over now. They had only one option left and that was to stay put quietly. This is what they did, albeit with glum faces. The humans loved the flavour of the muskmelons. They took them to their village and began growing them in the sandy mud near the riverbank.

The Apples
By Usha Bajracharya Verma

n old apple tree stood in the orchard. All summer long, it stretched out its branches as the sun and rain ripened its fruits.

By the time the fall season came, there were only three apples left, waiting for someone to pluck them. When the wind blew, the tree sang, We are apples three, anyone who uses one, shall a treasure see! One morning, as Gaurav was passing, he saw the tree with the apples and wanted to taste one. Just then, the wind sang through the leaves, and a plump, apple fell to the ground! Gaurav picked up the sweet fruit, took a great bite and threw the core away. The wind in the apple tree sang, sorrowfully, after him: Here in the orchard are apples two, but gone is the treasure that fell for you. The next day, Heena too came down the lane that passed by the orchard wall. She saw the two beautiful apples that hung on the branch.

She heard the wind sing in the branches, We are apples two, a treasure they hold for you. With a plonk, an apple fell down. Heena picked it up and held it carefully. She thought it was a pity to eat it and decided to keep the apple instead and left. The wind sang after her, Only one apple where once there were two. Gone is the treasure I gave to you. When she reached home, she hid the apple in her drawer and, after many days, it spoiled. On the third day, Rudra too went down the lane and spotted the last apple. The wind in the tree also sang to him, On the apple tree, a wonderful treasure, hanging, just see! Suddenly, the wind blew harder, and down fell the last apple. Rudra took his jack-knife out and cut it in half. Inside, he could see the small black seeds. He carefully took out all the seeds and climbed over the orchard wall, holding them in his hand. The earth in the orchard was still soft, for the frost had not yet come. Rudra made holes in the earth and in each hole he dropped an apple seed. Then he covered up the seeds and climbed back over the wall to eat his apple. As he walked down the lane, the orchard wind followed him, singing to him from every tree and bush, A planted seed is a treasure won. The work of the apple is now well done.

After his parents left for Delhi, he got ready, went to school with his aunt and wrote his exam. day playing video games and looking at the clock every few minutes. Due to heavy rains, his parents flight was postponed and they would be back at 5.00 a.m. the next day. Sunils aunt promised to wake him up early and asked him to sleep. But Sunil was not feeling sleepy. He glanced at the clock. It was 2:30 a.m. Two and half hours to go, he thought. He went near the window and looked at the raindrops falling. All of a sudden, he saw four men entering a bungalow in the opposite side. Even though they entered opening the main door, it looked odd to enter a house at that time and in such a hurry. Sunil thought that they were thieves and wasted no time in informing his aunt. His aunt, who had been sleeping, woke up startled and did not know what to do. Who lives there, aunty? Sunil asked. Mr. and Mrs. Shasthri live there all alone. Their children live in the States. What shall we do now? she exclaimed.

Aunty, I have an idea. Please call uncle and aunty. Ask them to lock themselves in the room and to make sure that they do not make a sound. In this way, they will be safe. I will go and lock the main door from outside. The thieves will be trapped and we will inform the police. Thats a good idea. I will call them up. Just be careful Sunil, she replied and started dialling the number. Mr. and Mrs. Shasthri were fast asleep. They were shocked and scared upon hearing that thieves had entered their home. They at once closed their bedroom door with minimal sound and locked themselves from the inside. Meanwhile, Sunil had reached the entrance and was waiting for his aunts signal. Once she said yes, he slowly locked

the door from outside and carefully crept back home. They informed the police. The thieves heard the phone ringing and became anxious. They decided to abandon the attempt and tried to flee with the loot. But the main door did not open. They realized that this was a trap and tried to get away through the window. But all the windows had strong grills, and hence they could not get away from there as well. They were perplexed at the turn of the events and decided to get hold of the inmates and keep them for ransom. But seeing the bedroom door already locked from the inside, they did not know what to do next. Later, the policemen entered the house, overpowered the thieves and caught them red-handed. The Inspector recognised the thieves, who had been serial offenders and had already conducted robberies in

different houses in the past few months. The police had been looking for them. Their modus operandi was to get hold of the house keys by tricking the servants or the inmates, and getting a copy made. This gave them the opportunity to enter houses at the dead of the night without the need to break in. Oftentimes, they had gotten away without anybody noticing them. But today was just not their day. The police took them away to the station and the Inspector stayed back to congratulate Sunil for his presence of mind and bravery. Sunils parents were in for a pleasant surprise when they returned. The Inspector informed them that Sunil would soon get a bravery award from the commissioner of police. Sunils family was ecstatic and celebrated with sweets. They were indeed very proud of him.

The More, the Merrier

By Vivek Chakravorty

huge forest was once struck by a drought. All the forest dwellers were facing a shortage of water. They had to travel great distances in search of water. Seeing this, Happy the Elephant called a meeting at his place. He said, Friends, we all are suffering from the shortage of water and thus we should all dig a well together. To this, Bunty the Monkey said, Happy, digging a well is not an easy job. I hope you
May (First) 2012

know that, in drought conditions, the ground water level gets deeper. It is summer season, and if we dont get water to drink, we will all be in trouble and not be able to go for work too, said Bhima the Bear. Hira the Deer said, Digging a well will take a lot of time. By the time that happens, we would all fall ill due to water scarcity.
33

I know that it is a difficult job, but once we become successful in digging a well, the problem of water scarcity shall end forever. And if you find it difficult to work in the heat, then we can work during the night when there is ample moonlight, said Happy. All the animals disagreed and said, We are really sorry but we dont think your idea is good enough to solve our problem. Hence we wouldnt be helping you with it. Saying this, all the animals left from Happys house. Happy was determined to dig a well on his own even if no one would help him. That evening, he fetched a spade and started digging the ground. Time passed and Happy felt tired, so he decided to rest under a tree. Suddenly Bhima appeared in front of him with his face

covered with a cloth. Is that you, Bhima? asked Happy. Bhima replied, Yes its me. I saw you working alone and so came to help you. But please do not tell anyone that I had come to help you do this foolish work of digging a well. Happy agreed to it and they both started digging. In a few minutes, they saw someone approaching them. Bhima told Happy that he shall hide somewhere because, if someone were to seehim, he will be made fun of. Bhima started searching for a place to hide. Since he didnt find one, he hid himself in the ditch that Happy had dug. Hira was the one who was approaching Happy. Hira came and told happy that he would like to help him in his work provided

34

that Happy doesnt tell anyone about it. No sooner did Hira say this then he saw Bunty coming towards them. Hira panicked and also hid himself in the ditch that happy had dug. Bunty asked Happy, Who was the one standing with you a while ago? Before Happy could reply, Monu the Cock came from behind and said to Bunty, What are you doing here my friend? To this Bunty said, I was just out for a walk and came to meet Happy on the way. Oh is it? Do you go for a walk carrying a spade in your hand? asked Monu with a smile. Bunty said, Forget that and tell me why you are here with a shovel? Monu replied, We both are aware that we have come here to help Happy in digging a well. Let us just be careful now that none of our friends come to know about it. Wait! said Happy. He turned towards the ditch and said to Bhima and Hira, Both of you please come out. The moment they both climbed out of the ditch, all four animals looked at each other

in astonishment. They were all surprised to see each other. Then Happy said, Now that you all are here to help me, let us not waste any more time and start out work. All the animals started digging the well together and in no time the news spread to other animals. Many of them came forward to help Happy. The work which could have otherwise taken months to be completed was completed in a week. The well was dug and it produced a lot of water. Seeing this, all the forest-dwellers became happy. They all jumped from joy and started praising and thanking Happy. To this, Happy said to them, You all deserve to be praised too. It is not only my friends and I who have accomplished this task, but it is all of us who have made it possible. It is because of your help that we have become successful. Bunty said, Yes Happy, you are absolutely right. It is true that when one person sets out to do some good work, all the others also join in to help him. As it is rightly said, The more, the merrier. We all have united and finished the work so easily.

his is a tale of the country called Kashabpuri. Kashabpuri was a beautiful country ruled by King Mohanchandra. King

Mohanchandra lived in a grand palace with his Queen and a son named Nitin. Prince Nitin was a pampered child. His parents loved him a lot. Whenever King

Mohanchandra went to another country, he bought lots of gifts and toys for the Prince. Prince Nitin was a charming boy and was loved by everyone. And he had become very naughty and stubborn. The kids of the Kashabpuri kingdom wanted to be friends with Nitin. He often used to ride throughout the kingdom on his horse and all the kids used to wave to him and try to talk to him or play with him. But Nitin was extremely proud of himself and never spoke to those kids. Instead, he troubled the kids and made fun of them. He used to wear a Halloween mask and scare young kids. He enjoyed it a lot when those kids used to get scared and cry. Prince Nitin, because of his behaviour, had no friends and was alone. King Mohanchandra and his Queen tried hard to make Nitin understand, but all was in vain. As time passed, Prince Nitin grew up to be even naughtier and more stubborn. The New Year was approaching and the king had arranged for a grand celebration. King Mohanchandra sent invitations to many people. Prince Nitin invited all the kids to the party. Prince Nitin was extremely

enthusiastic about the party and made fine arrangements for his little guests. He arranged for gifts, toys, puppet shows and magic shows. He also had the garden decorated with swings for the kids to play and also arranged for some delicious food and sweets. Prince Nitin was ready to enjoy the party to the fullest with all the kids. It was evening and the entire palace was shining brightly with colourful lights. The decorations were splendid and beautiful. Guests started coming in, and the King and his wife extended a warm

welcome to all of them. On the other side, Nitin was eagerly waiting for all his little guests to arrive. Time passed and none of the kids came. The King soon got busy in looking after his guests but noticed that Prince Nitin was upset about something. He called for Nitin and asked him, Why havent your guests arrived? Did you not invite them to the party? To this Nitin replied, I had invited all the kids to the party, and I do not know the reason why they havent come.

The king said, You have done all great preparations for the celebration, but have you made friends? Nitin looked confused at his fathers question. The king explained, You have misbehaved with those kids several times and never made them your friends. Nitin said, But I had only joked with them. The king said, Yes my child, not everyone likes to be laughed at. How would you feel if someone made fun of you and laughed at you? Prince Nitin understood his mistake and learned a lesson. He was ashamed

of his behaviour with the kids and felt sad about all that had happened. The King said to Nitin, It is never too late to make friends. You can still apologize to those kids and become good friends with them. This advice brought a smile on Nitins face and he understood that one should not misbehave with others. Making fun of others or insulting others leaves us friendless and all alone. And loving and respecting others fetches us true friends who shall be with us in good and bad times. Prince Nitin realised his mistake and immediately went to apologise and invite all the kids for the party.

Jaggus Unsuccessful Plot

By Mrs. Shantha Nagarjan

t had been raining heavily for days without a break and the animals of Champakvan had to remain inside their homes.

The bandicoot ate the grains stocked in his burrow. Lo! There was one lazy animal who had nothing to eat because he didnt store anything for the rainy season. It was Jaggu Jackal who was starving. He could not hunt for prey during the rains, as the small animals locked their homes and stayed inside. Jaggu thought of meeting his friend Jolly Fox to find out what his condition was. He waded through the streams and peeked into Jollys cave. Oh! Jolly, Im so hungry, I have got nothing to eat.

Just before the beginning of the monsoon, the rabbit, the bandicoot, the squirrel and the other small animals stored food in their burrows and holes. Thus, the rabbit could munch the cabbage leaves and have a nice time chatting with friends during the monsoon. The squirrel gobbled the nuts stored in her hole and slept for hours without a worry.

48

Please give me at least a small bone for chewing. Jolly, who lay huddled in a corner, grumbled, I myself couldnt get a single bone... See how thin I have become. Hmm! If only we could catch the rabbit or the goat, wed have a hearty meal. Let us think of a plan to catch them. Let us meet tonight under the Tamarind tree, said the Jackal. Okay. But nobody should know of our plan, warned Jolly. In the night, Jolly and Jaggu stealthily reached the Tamarind tree. Well, have you thought of a plan to lure the prey? whispered Jolly. I have a smart plan. We must tell Kalu Crow that the dam across the jungle river has burst due to flood waters. He will spread the news that the river water is going to rush into our colony and that all of us will drown unless we escape to the hill where the water cannot reach us. Listening to Jaggus plan, Jolly chuckled with joy. The animals will believe the news and flee to the hill where you will be waiting in a hole. The rabbit or the goat will fall an easy prey. Alas! The duo did not know that Tiplu Squirrel was sitting on the Tamarind tree and had heard every word they said. The very next morning Kalu flew around Champakvan shouting at the top of his voice. Hey folks! The dam has burst! The village will soon be flooded. All of you escape to the hill; the water will not

reach the top of the hill. The animals panicked. Should they flee to the hill? Just then, Tiplu arrived and told the rabbit of the plot hatched by Jaggu and Jolly. The rabbit ran and gave the news to the goat. Soon everyone knew that the dam had not burst and that there was no need for them to escape to the hill. Let the crooks wait in vain at the hilltop to catch the prey. We will have fun watching them return empty-handed. The animals laughed. The bandicoot had a naughty idea. Friends! Let us go to the Hill, hide ourselves behind the bushes and not miss the fun.
49

All the animals quietly hid themselves behind some bushes in the hill. The squirrel sat on a treetop from where he could see the crooks and told the animals of what was going on at the hilltop. Jaggu is lying in the muddy puddle fully covered with mud. Jolly is shivering and is drenched. Enraged by the long wait for the animals, Jolly shouted at Jaggu, Where are the animals? Jaggu shouted back, They must have come to know of the plan through you. Hence, none of them came to the hill. What? We foxes never betray others. It is you, I am sure who told someone about the plan so that you can have a hearty laugh at me, roared Jolly. Both spent a long time blaming each other and fighting. The squirrel who was watching the scene told the animals about the quarrel. The animals were so amused by the rooks sad state that they could not hush their laughter. They ran home shouting, Hurray! We have outwitted the crooks!

Bandicoots are nocturnal animals found mainly in Australia and its nearby islands. In India, a different species known as bandicoot rats can be found. Bandicoots have a long-pointed shrew-like face with a long tail. Bandicoots dig burrows for nests using the sharp claws on their feet. Digging also helps them to feed on insects living in the ground.

her nature. Her obedience to her driver had made him proud of her. However, Jenny never lost a single opportunity to humiliate Fanta.
By Sarita Bhalothia

Jenny was a beautiful car of red colour. She was extremely proud of her unique design, speed and shine. In the neighbourhood there lived another car, Fanta. She was an old-model, faded blue car who was very simple by

The owners of both the cars were close pals. So they always made outings together. Jenny would always try to leave Fanta behind. She would even hit Fanta while speeding, which would leave Fanta hurt with scratches on her body. Fanta would often think that, if Jenny would change her thinking and accept her as a friend, then they could have so much fun. Laughing and chatting, they could cover any long distance so easily without feeling exhausted. Though Fanta was genuine in her

feelings, Jenny never reciprocated them. She would think that Fanta wanted to be friends with her because she was very beautiful. Jenny would arrogantly say hurtful words to Fanta, which would leave her with no other option but to keep to herself. Once, Jenny and Fanta had to go to Nainital together. They were really excited imagining the beautiful vistas and the serene views of the lakes of Nainital. Both had had their baths and were shining brightly. Jenny was looking even more stunning than usual. She had not only used bodybrightening cream, but also smart stickers on herself. It had given her a completely new look. Their journey started early the next day. Jenny, showing off her beautiful looks, moved with agility and dexterity. Fanta too was in a happy mood and

tried to keep pace. After they had covered40 kilometers, Jenny thought of putting off Fanta. She bumped into her slightly. This sudden act shocked Fanta. She got hurt and developed a deep scratch on her right side. A little bit of paint came off. Instead of feeling sorry, Jenny began laughing loudly at Fanta and made faces at her. Fanta felt very disheartened. This slowed her momentum. On the other hand, this served as a boost for Jennys arrogance. She accelerated her speed, but couldnt pull it off and lost control. A bus was speeding down the road from the opposite direction. The collision between them had a very hard impact on Jenny. She was badly hurt, with the bonnet getting detached from her. She had dents and scratches in many places. When Fanta heard Jenny groaning in pain, she got very worried. What happened, friend? She asked. Jenny didnt have any energy left to reply to Fantas question. Fanta had no clue what to do. She thought of something and brought out a rope with which she tied Jenny. She dragged Jenny with great difficulty, but somehow managed to bring her to a garage. However, it was very crowded. The mechanic was very busy and wasnt paying attention to them.

Fanta pleaded him to take care of Jenny, at which he replied, I have very little time and a lot of work to do. If you wish, I can do basic repair work for her and the rest will be done only after three to four days. Fanta couldnt bear to see Jennys condition. She kept pleading with the mechanic he ultimately agreed to repair Jenny the next day. Fanta stayed near Jenny the entire night, taking care of her. Even on the next day, she didnt leave Jennys side until she had become completely alright. Jenny was feeling very remorseful for all her deeds which she had done to Fanta in the past. Fanta had been so loving and caring towards her. Jenny gathered courage and apologized to Fanta for her bad behaviour. Fanta just dismissed it, not wanting to embarrass Jenny. She smiled and hugged her tightly. Now both friends together ran smoothly on the roads, laughing and chatting, just the way Fanta had wished.
