Gautengs Captains Report.

46th National Council Meeting 19th March 2011 It is a pleasure and an honour to be elected as Captain of the Gauteng Nomads Club, and with it come the challenges of following in the footstep of some very competent individuals that have preceded me. I look forward to the commaradie of Nomads as a whole, and especially the interaction with the 2012 Captains. I am pleased to record that all is in order at Gauteng, and that we are having fields of about 130 players per month. The field have been noticeably smaller over the past few months, and this is in part due to the current economic climate. Financially we remain very sound, and with some unbudgeted sponsors coming in last year, Pat Gaffney was able provide each playing member with on of our newly designed playing shirts. I am sure you will all have noticed the improvement, even if they are still red. Looking ahead we are still able to get some of the best courses at rates within our budget. The incoming committee was tasked with doing a survey regarding our members preferences to which courses they would prefer to play. I am pleased to confirm that our current schedule is very much in line with our members preferences. It is fantastic to have the support and competence of Bev as our Match Secretary. She has been with us for 10 years now and continues to surpass all our expectations with her efficiency and sparkling nature. To you Bev and your dream team, thank you very much. Regretfully 2010 was not a great year for Gauteng Nomads and the bell has tolled for a number of our members, Gerry Jonas, Frank Bukes, Dave Chewins, Archie Allison and more recently, Ian Turnbull and (former Nomad) Brian Sylvester. The Andrew Mentis Committee exceeded their initial budget and raised R220 000.00 for Big Shoes. We bought them a new vehicle and we were still able to assist with training mannequins and office equipment. Being in charge of the 2010 Committee and dealing with a charity have been my greatest experiences in Nomads thus far. Our membership waiting list remains a point of concern. We have a total membership of 210, of which 161 are full members. The most concerning fact is that at the time of writing we only have 1 prospective member. We are driving for new members and look forward to our Captains meeting to hopefully get ideas on attracting new members into Gauteng. We must congratulation Glen Dalton, he does and fantastic job with coordinating our Golforama events. To all our members and our fellow Nomads from Easterns and Northerns who help us on a regular basis, thank you all. In closing, we would like to wish John Lees every success for the ensuing year, and to Mark and Peter, we wish you a very successful National Tournament filled with good golf, great weather and true Nomadic commaradie. Gavin Ditchfield. 2011 Gauteng Nomads Captain.
