(From my notes written in June 1995)

Time actually preserved the voices of Second World War as a forewarning to all generations to come, in the form of a diary written by a German girl. The diary she had left behind inspires and torches millions around the world even today. Fifty years ago, an unknown teenager perished in one of Hitlers death camps. She is Anne Frank, the daughter of Otto Hen rich Frank. She was born on 12th June 1929 in Frankfurtam-Main, Germany. During the years of chaos, she lived with her family in a secret flat at 263, Prinsengracht, Netherlands. Her family lived there for 761 days before eventually being spotted out by the German Police. She was a Jew. By her thirteenth birthday Nazis were taking over Amsterdam and making anti-Jewish rules. Notes from her diary:- I shall believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart. It is utterly impossible for me to build my life on a foundation of chaos, suffering from

death. I see the world being slowly transformed into a wilderness. I hear the approaching thunder. I see the suffering of millions. And yet, when I look up at the sky, I somehow feel that this cruelty shall end and that peace and tranquility will return. On 12th June 1942 she began writing her diary. The diary was a present on her birthday. Upon the pages she scribbled out her daily affairs without knowing that it would be read one day by millions to have a glimpse of life under the tyranny of Hitler. She really had poured out her heart into it. When she was denied open life, she found consolation in this way. Man cant live in total secrecy forever. On 4th August 1944 her family was finally caught by the German Police. Anne and her sister Margot got separated from the parents. They were transported to Bergen-Belsen in Central Germany. For a brief period, they were in Wister Bork concentration camp in Holland. They were later transported to Auschwitz concentration camp in Holland. By a hair line factor Otto Frank escaped from the gas chamber tragedy. He reached the camp hospital. Later on, he reached Galicia from where he finally landed in Western Europe through Odessa. Annes mother passed away a couple of months before her own death due to starvation. In 1945 February, both the sisters became prey to Typhus. Soon after that, Margot died and Anne really lost courage after witnessing the incident. A few weeks later, Annie also passed away sometime during that March from the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. The German Police had really ransacked her house but the diary had escaped the attention of their eyes. After sometime a male servant restored the diary to Meep and Elly without knowing the importance of it and without being aware of the fact that Meep and Elly had real connections with the Anne Frank family. After the war, this diary was handed over by them to Otto Frank. Thus the passage of Time really preserved this valuable diary for all generations to come to get to know the tyrannical period of Hitler beyond any doubt. The diary is a clarion call for peace and the right to live in this world. No autocracy could crush it out of the world. If it was not for Anne Franks Diary, perhaps the world would never have come to know of the gravity of the tyrannical rule of Hitler. Who cannot but be filled with tears on reading the dreams of a young girl who was denied of a free soil to live? She is the representative of thousands of people who were the captives of a lunatic ruler. No man with a real heart can ever forgive a man like Hitler for his ruthless attitude towards humanity. Characters live to be noticed. People with character notice how they live. Let us learn the lessons of war and try to live as human beings. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
