Mr.

Anthony Francis Fernandes born 30 April 1964 is a Malaysian entrepreneur and the founder of Tune Air who introduced the first budget no-frills airline, Air Asia, to Malaysians with the tagline "Now everyone can fly". At a young age, Tony Fernandes used to follow his mother, a businesswoman to Tupperware dealer parties. He was educated at Epsom College 1977-1983 and then graduated from the London School of Economics in 1987. His first idea was to have a low-cost long-haul carrier, he wanted an airline that would fly between his home country, Malaysia, and the UK. That was a journey. Mr. Anthony Fernandes desperately wanted to do when he was at school in the UK but couldn't because the fares to return home to Malaysia were just too high. The concept was in his mind since childhood. Pavlovian conditioning makes him achieve in his career today, which others are just dream. He was Financial Controller at Virgin Communications London from 1987 to 1989, Senior Financial Analyst at Warner Music International London from 1989 to 1992, Managing Director at Warner Director at Warner Music Malaysia, from 1992 to 1996, Regional Managing Director, ASEAN from August 1996 to December 1999 and Vice President, ASEAN from December 1999 to July 2001 at Warner Music South East Asia. He was actively involved in developing the Malaysian music industry and received the title Setia Mahkota Selangor from DYMM Sultan Selangor Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah in 1999 in recognition of his contributions and was also the recipient of the Recording Industry Person of the Year 1997 by the Recording Industry Association of Malaysia

Within the space of five years, Asian budget carrier Air Asia has grown quickly, helping to shake up the airline business in the region. With its fleet of 30 Boeing 737-300 aircraft and 15 Airbus A320s, the no-frills airline currently flies to more than 45 destinations in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Macau, China, Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar. Mr. Tony Fernandes mortgaged his own house and shrank his savings to help him achieving his dream. Depend with other normal person in the world none of them were bought a dept Air Asia and want to develop the company. It was not a easy thing to do. Furthermore, he has the potential to overcome the problem faced by the company. Mr. Tony Fernandes found out the management structure and the workforce there was facing major problem which need to solve in a short time. He used own style of leadership to overcome the problem and finally he overcome the entire problem. Air Asia was acquired at RM1 (US 26 cents) with liability of over RM40 million (US11 millions) and 2 ageing Boeing planes. It was unexpected things done by Mr. Tony Fernandes. At that point of time, others perception through him are crazy but Mr. Tony Fernandes had different thinking. After the September 11 tragedy, he expected significant layoffs which made the experience staff readily available, and the cost of airline operation to go down by 40%. Under Fernandes leadership and vision, Air Asia broke even within a mere 12 months and cleared its debt. Within a short span of time, AirAsia's size in terms of revenue, profits and popularity has eclipsed Malaysia's very own national carrier, MAS. Before AirAsia, he estimates that only six per cent of Malaysians had ever travelled in a plane. In 2007, Mr. Tony

Fernandes has again created a "first" in Asia by starting a hotel chain, TuneHotels which is based on the no-frills concept. The first Tune Hotel was opened at the intersection of Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman in Kuala Lumpur. Expansions are in the works as more hotels will be opened up throughout Malaysia. Fernandes biggest achievement has been to turn AirAsia into an international carrier. Mr. Tony Fernandes corporate culture that changes lives and makes the company one of the most successful airlines in the world. In his concept no hierarchy its means in his organizational all the person are treat equally no barriers between the workers. Tony is a leader and a manager, but he is one of the team also. So his office is smack at the heart of the company, with no walls and no doors. Everyone sees him and he sees everyone. This concept really different, where other CEO would like to sit in a air condition room with costly furniture. But he being normal dont want waste his money buying costly painting, furniture or other costly things.

Mr. Tony Fernandes is a different kind of CEO, he loves to spend a lot of time with his guests. He was going out every day talking to them. He asks taxi drivers what, the taxi driver thinks of their product. He asks guys in his hotel. From them he learns what they want. On his rational thinking he said that why spend hundreds of millions of dollars to get someone to tell what the customer or guest want, when himself can just ask them, with this can get knows about the customer well. The mode of transport and the hotel are less important things to them. So if its clean, cheap, nice bed, nice shower, people want it. There

isnt a branded low-cost hotel in Asia like Motel 6 in the US or Formula 1 in Europe. So Mr. Tony Fernandes saw that as an opportunity. Not only want to gain profit but also want to serve to society. As an entrepreneur, Mr. Tony Fernandes usually think one, never listen to anyone else and just follow what a mind said, because otherwise never start what wish for. When first Mr. Tony Fernandes start to discuss about his idea everyone in that room (the Bloomberg Forum) would have advised him not to start the airline. Everyone in the population of Malaysia probably would have. So Mr. Tony Fernandes just got to feel what believe and he got to go for it and not be afraid of failure. Thats one of the things that make him achieve today. Everyone is geared for success. Mr. Tony Fernandes usually advise other Lifes about trying and live the day. If fail, fail, but at least dont want to sit there at the age of 55 and say I should have done it. Thats the worst feeling. A person cant go back in time. So his best advice is go with your burn down, give it your best bet and you may fail but dont give up until win. Mr. Tony Fernandes perception makes to think, react and learn to do something better than doing nothing and garb the opportunity.
