Course Description This world literature course will examine a wide variety of works which will all serve the students better understanding of world politics, self identity, and the importance of a strong center in every situation. Goals Develop higher order thinking skills that will transfer into the college setting. Improve writing through extensive practice and revision. Integrate creative and imaginative activities into assessment for long lasting impact. Major Units Critical Reading and Writing Dystopian Perspectives Africas Dilemma College Preparation Existentialism Greek Epics and Plays Shakespeare Research Papers (requirement for graduation) Required Materials 1 inch binder with paper and folders; Portfolio (provided in class); Flash drive (or memory stick for USB ports) Class Website Mrs. Overlys classes work off of a website called Wikispaces. On this site, parents and students can locate all assignments, class calendars of activities, updates regarding class activities, all reading materials in a printable format, as well as any other classroom materials. This website is on a public domain and can be accessed without need for a password or user name. Parents are encouraged to access this site on a regular basis to follow class assignments and class news. Students will be asked to create an account on wikispaces so that they can participate in student discussion boards, create class presentations, and use the messaging system to communicate with other students and teacher in class. Late points will deduct as usual for papers/projects equal to or more than 100 points. -All papers must follow APA formatting rules and min/max boundaries perfectly in order to be accepted. -Each marking period, papers must adhere to increased grading expectations which will be provided by Mrs. Overly. Grading 60% Major and Minor Papers, Daily Quizzes 40% Creative Projects and Group Presentations
