l A THIEF broke into a house in Hinderton Road and stole items of jewellery.
l A bouldER was used to smash a French window at the back of a house in
Hinderton Road and jewellery and a laptop were taken.
l TWO men did a runner from a taxi at The Cross, Neston. The frst man got out to go
to the cash machine and the second ran off. The taxi driver gave chase but returned to
fnd 90 foat stolen from the cab.
l A lARgE brown potted ceramic planter was stolen from the front garden of a house
in lees lane, little Neston.
New look Knights
This is the new look Neston Nomads Knights Under 11s after playing their
last game as an under 10s side in July. The team, along with many others,
had a fabulous day at the Claire House Cup and are now very much looking
forward to the new season.

PoRTAblE play equipment which can
transform a public open space has been
bought for the CAN group Community
Activities in Neston.
The social enterprise received a rural
support grant of more than 6,000 from
Cheshire West and Chester Council,
match funding from Sainsburys as part
of the planning process and more than
3,000 from Neston Town Council.
The equipment called Snug is
designed to bring about creative
playscapes for children to explore, create,
discover and learn. The kit comprises of
large scale, inter-related, fexible shapes
which can be reconfgured
by children to vary their
play experience.

The council is keen to
see increased activities in
the Market Square and we
hope its initial use there

provide an opportunity for parents,
guardians and carers to bring their
children to the Square, to have fun,
socialise and meet up with others.
Weve been working with the
manufacturers Sutcliffe Play, the Town
Council and local groups and businesses
to establish ideas of how the Market
Square can become more animated.
We believe the kit will be a big success
locally. We hope to offer it further afeld
and to other groups, as we are also
looking at possible future venues around
the Neston and Parkgate area where we
can set up similar play days.

Golden year for St Winefrides
THE children of St. Winefrides have enjoyed a number of Olympic themed activities
in this special year of the Olympics. Unfortunately, the appalling weather of the last
two months meant that the Year 6 children could not compete in their fnal Sports Day,
as the event had to be cancelled on three occasions. This did not stop the children
fnishing their time at St Winefrides in style, going out in with gold. Together with the
rest of the Key Stage 2 department, they produced a fantastic performance of the
musical Go for Gold, which retold the story of the origins of the Olympic Games in
Ancient Greece through the eyes of a modern athlete.

very successful year for the
children of Year 6, following the
confrmation of their Key Stage

golden result as the children
achieved 100% in Reading and
Science and 94% in Writing

Farewell to Woodfall head teacher
At the end of the summer term, children, staff and
parents at Woodfall Primary School said farewell
to their headteacher John Toop, who is retiring
after 17years at the school. A special assembly
was performed by children and staff, followed by
afternoon tea with parents, governors and past and
present colleagues within the community.
Chairman of governors Ian Mellor, said: Mr Toop has
been an outstanding headteacher, leading a strong
team of professional and dedicated staff ensuring
that the children of Woodfall have had a superb
education.
We are lucky to have had Mr Toop as Head of
Woodfall, he will be sorely missed. We wish him
a long and active retirement.
Schools pride in exchange programme
WoodFAll Primary School has again been
involved in a teacher exchange programme
arranged through the AfriTwin organisation.
During the year, pupils at the school have
been in contact with the staff and children at
their twinned school, St James RC Primary in
Cape Town, South Africa.
Letters, emails and photographs have been
exchanged to explore cultural similarities and
differences between the schools. Several
joint projects comparing role models and
respective local areas have been completed,
integral to this years theme What makes us proud?.
As part of the programme two teachers from Woodfall, Helen Nuttall and Hayley
Harvey, visited their sister school in Cape Town during the February half term holiday.
They spent their time working with pupils aged 5-14 and also enjoyed South African
hospitality in the evenings, visiting Table Mountain, Cape Point and Robben Island.
In June, two teachers from St James came over and visited classes at Woodfall to
talk about life in South Africa and also taught some Afrikaans words and songs to the
children. During their stay in Neston they visited local attractions such as Claremont
Farm and Parkgate for fsh and chips, as well as joining staff and pupils at the Cheshire
Schools Olympic competition where the Woodfall team represented South Africa. A trip
over to liverpool completed their visit.

were selected as the winners from
all of the entries from schools across
the borough. The pupils were asked
to submit a scrapbook recording the
events, assemblies and activities
they have organised during the year.
Judges were impressed with the
number of activities leila and Emily
had used to promote road safety
amongst pupils in the school.
One of the events the pupils organised
recently was the use of a radar and
Speed Indication Device outside the
school to monitor traffc speed.
The pupils were presented with a
trophy and superb range of prizes by
representatives from Cheshire West
and Chester Council. Deputy Head-
teacher, Annabel Elliott said: We are
delighted that Leila and Emilys hard-
work has been recognised. They have
done a fantastic job this year. They will
be a tough act to follow next year.
Q We have decided to install a new en suite and would

the production of toilet paper, and while

heard theyre very expensive. Are there
any more afordable alternatives?
A You dont have to spend a vast amount

NestoN slimmers are doing their bit to
celebrate worldwide sporting fever by walking
the equivalent distance of London to Paris.
Te slimmers, who all attend the Neston
British Legion Slimming World group,
committed to the global challenge after being
shocked by a national survey that revealed that
three out of four people (75 per cent) never take
part in competitive activity and more than half (55
per cent) never take part in non-competitive activity
either. Te survey also found that almost half of people
(45 per cent) think it would be difcult or impossible to run
100m without stopping.
Te group, which has lost an incredible 22 stones between them, aims to motivate slimmers to
become more active.
Before we lost weight most of us never did any exercise, says Jayne, Slimming World Consultant
for the Neston group. However, after transforming our lives by losing weight we now know
anything is possible with the support of people around you and we cant wait to get started on this
challenge as we have been inspired by all the sporting heroes from across the globe who have been
gathered in London!
Its easy to fall out of the habit of being active
when youve got a busy life and the weather
gives you plenty of opportunity to make excuses.
And when youre overweight youre often very
self-conscious about doing any sort of exercise
anyway. Te difculty is that the longer we go
without doing exercise, the less confdent we feel
about it.
Marie one of our very successful members
from the Wednesday morning group, suggested
that anyone interested could meet up together
and go out for a walk, as walking alone is not
something a lot of us wanted to do. Tis proved
to be so successful that we now have a regular
Monday morning walk and sometimes, another
walk on a Tursday as well. We could do with all
the support we can get so it would be wonderful
to welcome anyone who would like to come
along and join us.
