For the lettering: If you dislike colourwork, just knit rounds 72-76 and use a tapestry needle to embroider your POLICE BOX in the blank space, but since I like colourwork and dislike embroidery, I did the following. Rounds 79-80: *K2, P1* until the end of the round. For the strap: Knit 8 stitches, bind off 29 stitches, K16, BO 12, K4, BO 13, K8. On one side, knit strap in stockinette stitch (knit right side, purl wrong side, repeat) until it is as long as you want it. Mine is 61 cm. long. Do the same on the other side. Knit them together with a three-needle bind off as follows: With both straps on a separate needle, hold the needles parallel to each other, with the right sides together and the wrong sides out. Needle tips should point to the right. Insert the third needle into the first stitch on the front needle. Without taking the stitch off, insert the needle into the first stitch on the back needle. Knit these two stitches together. 1. Knit the next stitch from the front and back needles together in the same way. 2. Pull the first stitch on the third needle over the second stitch to bind off. 3. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all the stitches have been bound off. For the buttonhole: Knit the final four stitches in stockinette stitch for about 6 rows, then knit two on each side for two rows, and two more rows to finish, binding off to make a buttonhole. Finishing: Using a tapestry needle, sew the bottom of the bag together and weave in loose ends. Sew a small button on the inside of the purse above the E of POLICE on the opposite side from the one with the white buttonhole.
