Miss Millers Kindergarten News August 31, 2012 I-Care Rules

1. We listen to each other. 2. Hands are for helping, not hurting. 3. We use I-Care language. 4. We care about each others feelings. 5. We are responsible for what we say and do.

What Were Learning


Classroom/School rules and expectations: We have been working on becoming familiar with and establishing the rules and routines of the classroom and school community; especially the I-Care rules. Please discuss and reinforce these with your child at home. Reading: We have been working on recognizing the various letters in the alphabet and words that start with each letter. We have also been establishing the rules and routines for our core reading curriculum the Daily 5. Math: We have been working on learning how to recognize colors and numbers. We have also started learning how to write numbers.

Reminders
There will be NO SCHOOL Monday, Sept 3rd.

Writing: We have been practicing how to write letters, both uppercase and lower case.

Dont forget to check the snack calendar and send snack with your child on the appropriate day.
We have started our beginning of the year testing. We are testing the students on uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and making beginning sounds.

Bake Sale
Wednesday there is a cart that comes around to each classroom with treats to purchase. If your child would like to buy something please send 25 in a bag, envelop, etc. with his or her name on it on Wednesdays.

Upcoming Dates:
No school Monday, September 3 for Labor Day. Early Dismissal Friday, September 14th. Early Dismissal Friday, October 5th. No School Monday, September 8th for Columbus Day.

Popcorn/Pencil Fridays:
One Friday of every month students have the opportunity to purchase popcorn and/or a pencil from the PTA. If your child would like to do so, please send 25 with him or her on the designated Friday.

Student of the Week


Each child will have the opportunity to shine in his or her way. This will be a special week for your child to bring items from home and invite family members to visit our classroom. Student of the week will begin once we have learned how to ask questions and understand the difference between statements and questions. When it is your childs turn to shine you will receive a letter with more information about your childs special week.
