Whats the difference between a professional and social fraternity?


A professional fraternity emphasizes a particular career path (e,g, business, engineering, chemistry). This provides our brothers and sisters the advantage of networking, developing professional interests, and supporting each other academically. Additionally, professional fraternities are coed while social fraternities are only for men and social sororities are only for women.

Can I be involved in a social fraternity or sorority as well as Phi Chi Theta?


Yes, because one is a professional fraternity and the other is social, they are considered different types of organizations. There is no conflict of interest involved by being in both.

Why should I rush Phi Chi Theta?


Becoming a brother or sister of Phi Chi Theta can be one of the best experiences you have at JMU! There are a variety of activities and limitless resources. This includes networking with Fortune 500 companies and

incredible opportunities for professional growth. The ability to connect with and relate to students with similar academic interests is one of the most beneficial aspects of PCT. The advice you gain from your brothers and sisters is invaluable. The combination of making life-long friends and professional networking makes membership in PCT a unique experience.

Is it okay to rush other business fraternities?


Yes, there are three business fraternities here at JMU! Checking out other business fraternities will allow you to find the best fit for you.

What if I am unable to attend a rush event?


It is important that you attempt to attend all stages of rush. However, if you cannot, please feel free to contact our rush chairs, Rachel Covas and Maggie Mcgraw, whose email addresses can be found under our websites Contact Us tab.

What is the time commitment as a pledge?


As a pledge you are required to attend a weekly meetings. Mandatory fraternity events, including active interviews, average three to four hours of your time a week. We are flexible and understand that things come up but the time commitment is very manageable, however, it is in your best interest to try and attend all pledge events. Pledging is a fun experience

that preps you for the rest of your time as an active member.

How much of a time commitment is Phi Chi Theta?


The overall time commitment to PCT is approximately one to three hours a week and is very manageable with a full academic schedule. Once an active member, you are required to attend a weekly active meeting. In addition, PCT coordinates a variety of professional, social, and philanthropic events.

What leadership opportunities are available?


As a pledge you may run for president, vice-president, treasurer or secretary of your pledge class. Once initiated into the fraternity, you are eligible to run for one of the many leadership positions available in Phi Chi Theta! There are four Executive Board positions available each year (with elections held in the middle of the fall semester), as well as fifteen Chair Positions available each semester (such as Professional Chair, Fundraising Chair, Social Chair, and Public Relations Chair).

What if I want to study abroad for a semester?


We understand that many may want to take advantage of study abroad programs, therefore you are allowed to become inactive for one semester and still be a member of PCT when you return.
