The Agency Coordinating Body for Afghan Relief (ACBAR), a dynamic NGO membership organization, is in search of an experienced expatriate executive. Its (103) members from the international and national NGO community represent substantial aid investment and employ over 40,000 persons in Afghanistan. ACBAR operates offices in Kabul, Jalalabad, Herat, and Mazar and has a staff of 64. Its core functions include facilitating coordination among NGOs and between NGOs and the rest of the aid assistance community and the government, facilitating representation and advocacy, collecting and disseminating information.

Major areas of responsibilities


The ACBAR Director will manage day-to-day ACBAR operations on behalf of, and in close consultation with, the ACBAR General Assembly and Steering Committee. S/he will also play a key role in facilitating strong NGO involvement in aid planning and policy processes for Afghanistan. S/he should take proper measures that the strategic review of ACBAR is carried on. S/he will have to carry on the financial management or overview of ACBAR; should take over fund raising responsibility; and report properly and timely to donors. The position will involve a high degree of liaison with NGOs, government authorities, UN agencies, and donor agencies. This position is based in Kabul. Significant travel will be required inside and outside the country.

Qualifications
Diploma / University degree University degree in preferably field such as Political Sciences, law, International Relations Minimum level required: MSc/MA

Experience A minimum of 5 years senior management experience in international relief and development is required. Proven fundraising experience is essential. Previous work experience in Afghanistan and/or other conflict and/or Islamic countries is essential. Experience of Organizational Management is essential.

Skills, knowledge and attitudes Strong coordination, representation and diplomatic skills are required. Proven strategic and operational management ability and inter-personal skills team player. Problem solving and leadership skills is required. Ability to prioritize, stress management skills and multi-task management abilities are required. Ability to work in a stressful environment, handle pressure and often challenging work situations is essential. Financial management skills is essential too. Personal integrity, sense of humor, intuitive and self motivation capacity a significant advantage. Proficiency in most common computer software including word processing, spreadsheets is needed.

Language Fluent in spoken, reading and written English is required. Knowledge of Dari and Pushto is an advantage
