Highlights
Digital Bangladesh Projects of BTCL are planned not only to augment the revenue generation of the company, but also to improve socio-economic conditions of the country as well as to supplement the agenda of building a Digital Bangladesh. BTCL has provided necessary infrastructural and logistic support to implement video conferencing to all Dist. HQs under A2I, which is a vital component for implementing e-governance. It is also trying through its projects to reach all Upazila HQs through optical fiber cable, replacing traditional wireless connectivity, which will increase the bandwidth capacity many fold and bring the benefits of ICT to the doorsteps of rural people. BTCL is also cooperating with other bodies of Government of Bangladesh, mostly with Ministry of Science & ICT, to complete the projects like Bangla.gov.net (Development of National ICT Infra-Network for Bangladesh Government), aiming at establishing e-governance. Completion of Infobahan Project This project was launched by BTCL to develop a convergent network to cater the needs of the IT sector and to implement upcoming Next Generation Network (NGN) Services in Bangladesh. After completion of the project, during the year 2010-11, internet connectivity and services based on internet technology, such as P2P data connection, is available in all major district HQs of the country. Remote 7 District HQs will be connected very soon by the ongoing project TNDP. Installation of 1450 km Optical Fiber Cable in the national backbone network ensures high speed data connectivity to rest of Dist. HQs. Virtual Private Network BTCL came up with another solution to provide point to point data service with much lower cost. Using state of art IP technology BTCL is able to setup VPN with less cost and effective security. Technologically this is known as MPLS-VPN. It decreases the service cost up to 22% of existing DDN service cost. This solution is very useful & cost effective for corporate users. E-Governance Commercial accounting has already been introduced and automation of whole accounting system is in progress. It will create a foundation for office automation. BTCL is running its own billing system and implementing more platforms for future expansion.

Message

Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) emerged as a public limited company on 1st July 2008 from the age-old government organization, Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB). Through this transition BTCL has been created to provide service through competition with other operators in the country. By this time BTCL has passed 3 (three) years of its journey. At this moment BTCL is providing the service like PSTN, IGW, IIG, ICX, ISP, NTTN etc. BTCL is providing broadband ADSL service and has taken initiative to provide wireless broadband service. To provide competitive service, for the first time BTCL adopted a strategic approach by offering call rates at 30 paisa/min to any BTCL phone everywhere in the country, which is popularly known as 'One country, one rate'. Besides this, BTCL provided free telephone connection at District, Upazilla and Growth Center levels. BTCL has taken appropriate measures and actively participating in achieving 'Vision 2021' of the present government through providing adequate telecommunication infrastructural support. BTCL has initiated a number of projects to facilitate e-governance, video conferencing and digitization of government services. To bring rural people to ICT's global arena, BTCL has already installed optical fibre cable at 108 Union Parishads and a project of 1000 Union Parishads is going on. Gradually all the Union Parishds will come under optical fiber network of BTCL. To provide better services, BTCL has adopted the principle of reducing copper cable length and installing optical fiber cable closer to the customer premises as much as possible. In this context BTCL is installing ONU (Optical Node Unit) and AGW (Access Gateway) widely. BTCL has been implementing NGN based projects to provide broadband based data and video service, video conference etc. Gradually several modern services will be incorporated in the BTCL network. I hope within short time BTCL will be able to provide different modem telecommunication services to the customers throughout the country with quality and competitive price. At the end, I would like to thank all our valued customers. I express my gratitude and thanks to the Honorable Minister, Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. Thanks and gratitude to the Chairman, BTCL and Board of Directors of BTCL for their effort and guidance to run BTCL properly. I am grateful to all specially to the officials of MoPT, BTRC, Teletalk, BSCCL, TSS and BCS for their support and cooperation. Thanks to all private operators in telecom sector for their cooperation. Last but not least, I express my

heartiest thanks and gratitude to the officials and employees of BTCL who worked hard to run BTCL to achieve its goals toward building 'Digital Bangladesh'.
