MEMS technology for highest precision

Pressure sensor for occupant protection

Precise data for safer, cleaner and more economical driving Bosch Automotive Electronics division (AE) is one of the largest automotive semiconductor manufacturers in Europe. We are the undisputed market leader for automotive MEMS sensors (MicroElectro-Mechanical Systems) with a production of more than 160 million sensors a year. We design, manufacture and sell sensors, ASICs, ASSPs and power semiconductors, based on experience in automotive electronics components of more than 40 years. Our sensors reliably transform physical (e.g. pressure or acceleration) or chemical parameters (e.g. CO2 concentration) into electrical signals. The key technology for these sensors is micromachining, which is similar to the manufacturing methods in microelectronics. MEMS sensors can be made in large numbers at attractive prices.

High accuracy and fast crash information The pressure sensor SMD187 detects the pressure change in a side door of an automotive vehicle due to the deformation of the door during an impact. The sensor is designed as a component for mounting in a satellite sensor housing by the use of direct SMD assembly. A piezo-resistive pressure sensor element and a suitable electronic circuitry for the signal amplification and signal processing are integrated into one pressure sensor module. The sensor offers high accuracy and fast crash information. Customer benefits u Transfer of pressure change: 10 bit resolution u Advanced diagnosis capability (during operation) u Premold/mold package with standard SOIC16 footprint u Absolute pressure range: 50...126.5 kPa u Crash signal range: -5+15 % with respect to ambient pressure u Temperature: -40 C125 C u Digital output u Transfer of absolute pressure u Low noise u Supports PSI5 Standard u Lead-free

Detection of impending vehicle rollover The SMG06x (new generation SMG10x) rollover sensor which can be integrated in the airbag ECU detects the danger of a vehicle rollover. Through capacitive coriolis force detection, the sensor measures the vehicles movement around its longitudinal axis. If a rollover is detected early, vehicle occupants can be effectively protected by belt tensioners and head airbags. Customer benefits u Full self test and continuous self monitoring of mechanics and electronics u On-chip digital LP filter (FIR) u Standard SMD housing (PLCC44 for SMG06x; SOIC16 for SMG10x) u Lead-free u Digital signal output via SPI u Analog output option available (only SMG06x) u Automotive temperature range -40C...+105C
