A privat e universit y, Kyung Hee has a comprehensive educat ion syst em
encompassing all grades from kindergart en t o graduat e school. Founded in
1949 as a t wo-year college, Kyung Hee est ablished a four-year universit y at
t he Seoul Campus in 1952. The Global Campus at Suwon opened in 1979,
followed by t he Gwangneng Campus in 1984.
As Kyung Hee celebrat es it s 60t h anniversary in 2009, it ascert ains prest ige
as a universit y of significance and infinit e possibilit y despit e it s short hist ory
of only half a cent ury. It has appoint ed t he next fift y years as t he second
Renaissance for leading forward. As Kyung Hee reaches for it s goal of
expanding t o t he compet it ive universit y, it is concent rat ing it s effort s int o
st r en g t h en i n g t h e cor e cap aci t y i n t h e f i el d s of ed ucat i on ,
int ernat ionalizat ion, research, and universit y management .
Besides, Kyung Hee st rives t o bridge cult ural and social gaps by promot ing

Academic evaluation
regulation
Based on t he Kyung Hee Universit y regulat ion 46,
maximum score achievable of each course is a 100
score. The academi c grade i s eval uat ed by t he
synt het ic combinat ion of exam result s and class
result s (at t endance and assignment s). Furt hermore,
Kyung Hee Universit y nullifies t he st udent s credit of
t he relevant semest er in some cases. For det ailed
informat ion, please visit t he Kyung Hee Universit y

Exam Evaluation
By t he Kyung Hee Universit y Regulat ion 3.46, t he
universit y has a st andardized grade policy for all
courses. In ot her words, 40 percent age of st udent s in
one cl ass can get more t han B
+
grade. However,
some courses such as a cl ass has l ess t han t en
st udent s and experiment s class are not applied t his
policy. The st andard of t he academic grade is t he
same as following;

(OIA)
In 1984, t he Cent er for Int ernat ional Exchanges (CIE)
was est ablished on t he Seoul Campus t o promot e
i nt ernat i onal educat i on exchange programs f or
st ud en t s an d f acul t y memb er s as w el l as t o
coordinat e various ot her int ernat ional act ivit ies at
t he universit y. Wit h t he enlargement of it s roles and
act i vi t i es, t he CIE was set up al so on t he Gl obal
Camp us (Suw on) i n 2005. It s name has b een
changed t o Office of Int ernat ional Affairs (OIA) from
2008 as t h e un i ver si t y p ut s mor e f ocus on
int ernat ional affairs.
The major activities of OIA include the

conference and act ivit ies of KHU.
Through t he st udent exchange program, which was
init iat ed in 1991, t he st udent s had opport unit ies t o
st udy at sist er universit ies of Kyung Hee wit h credit s
exchanged. The universit ies wit h which Kyung Hee
mai n t ai n s exch an g e ag r eemen t s i n cl ud e t h e
Universit y of Nort h Carolina at Wilmingt on(U.S.A),
t he Universit y of New Sout h Wales(Aust ralia), Nihon
Universit y(Japan), Moscow St at e Universit y(Russia),
and Sout heast Universit y(P.R. China) among many
ot hers. During vacat ions, OIA sends st udent groups
f or Lan g uag e Tr ai n i n g Pr og r am at our si st er
campuses.
A large number of st udent s and facult y members
from sist er universit ies have also visit ed Kyung Hee
t o part icipat e in credit exchange programs as well as
ot her act ivit ies such as t he short t erm educat ional
and cult ural programs. Delegat ions from Ball St at e
Uni versi t y, Nort hern Il l i noi s Uni versi t y, Pi t t sburg
St at e Universit y(U.S.A), Sout heast Universit y(P.R.
China), Soka Universit y, Hokuriku Universit y, and
Ri t sumei kan Uni versi t y(Japan) vi si t Kyung Hee
annually for our short -t erm int ernat ional programs,
which include cult ural act ivit ies, special lect ures on
various t opics, and sit e-seeing. OIA also provides
cust om-made short -t erm programs for delegat ions
from sist er campuses, which sat isfies each groups
unique area of int erest and need.
The Int ernat i onal Medi cal Servi ce program was
init iat ed in 1982 in order t o provide medical care t o
t he people in developing count ries. The medical
service t eam from t he Kyung Hee Medical Cent er
has pref ormed medi cal servi ces wi t h uni versi t y
af f i l i at ed medi cal i nst i t ut es i n Thai l and(1982),
Indonesia(1984), Sudan(1992), Mogolia(1993) and
Kazakhst an(1995).
Kyung Hee has also been host ing an int ernat ional
conference since 1982 commemorat ing t he U.N.s
decl ar at i on of t he Int er nat i onal Day of Peace.

The Global Collaborat ive Summer Program is joined
by East Asias finest universit ies; Peking Universit y in
China, Rit sumeikan Universit y in Japan, Moscow
St at e Uni versi t y i n Russi a as wel l as t he Uni t ed
Nat ions Depart ment of Economics and Social Affairs
and Conference of NGOs(CONGO).
An ext ension of t he Penn-Kyung Hee Collaborat ive
Summer program, a j oint init iat ive of Kyung Hee
Universit y and Universit y of Pennsylvania, launched
in 2006, t he Global Collaborat ive st rives t o promot e
a bet t er underst anding of t he East Asian region and
t he world, in t andem wit h t he current quest s for
mult icult uralism and global t rust . It also aims t o
provide a new paradigm for higher educat ion by
int egrat ing educat ion, research, and pract ice.
Through hi gh- qual i t y research, educat i on and
diverse modules on Global Governance and East
Asian Civilizat ion, we hope t his program will present

The IIE(Inst it ut e of Int ernat ional Educat ion) of Kyung

ent rance gat e. Poplar pizza franchised rest aurant s in
Korea, Mr. Pizza and Sungshinje Pizza are also just
out side of campus. A global chain of hamburger fast

live performances, drinking, dancing, karaoke and
dining. If you int erest ed in movies, t he closest area is
Wangsip-ri t hat can be reached by subway no.1. You
can find t he Korean major t heat er called GCV t here. If
you like coffee, ice, cream, or t ea, t here are many
coffee shops, some neo-t radit ional t eahouses, and
numerous ice cream parlors in t he downt own area
of Hoegi area. Finally, in order t o t ruly experience a
p ar t of Kor ean n i g h t l i f e, you sh oul d vi si t a
Noraebang (singing room) wit h some friends. Bot h
Korean and English songs are available.

Smoking

smoking in some public places. Therefore, if you are

Alcohol in Korean Social life
St udent s can find t hat in Korea alcohol is served on
many social occasions. For some Korean st udent s
drinking wit h friends is a very import ant part of t heir
social life and some may drink more t han is good for
t hem. However, many st udent s j ust have a f ew
drinks and some choose not t o drink at all. St udent s
cert ainly will not be alone of t hey ask for a non-
