My Home
s I grab the shiny golden handle and push open the white door, I am instantly welcomed by the familiar smell of a home-cooked meal mixed with the lingering aroma of my mothers most recent candle. I continue through the hallway, dumping my backpack on the dining room table as to release the weight of my school day from my shoulders as quickly as possible; a routine my body does as mechanically as a robot. I resume my habitual procedure by slouching into the family room, finally collapsing onto the big brown couch and turning on the TV. After another stressful day at school, nothing feels better than being in the one place where Im more comfortable than anywhere else; my home. It may not be fancy, and it certainly isnt perfect, but I love it. There is

nowhere else Id rather call my home. Its not just a house. A house is a building with furniture inside. No; thats not what my home is. My home is a safe haven, where everyone is welcome and love is always being given. Even when the people inside are fighting and screaming at each other, love is present. Without love, a home is just a house. Just another building amongst thousands. Love is the most important factor in a home; a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend. I couldnt imagine coming back to a house full of emptiness, hatred, fear. Sure, we get angry with each other. Yes, Ive dropped the word hate here and there in moments of ignorance and frustration. The ability to forgive and to look past each others imperfections makes up for these moments.

My home is where my life is. My family, my bed, my clothes, my memories, my past, my future, my present. Its where I ate my first meal, where I took my first step, where I lost my first tooth, where I had my first cold. There are so many life events happening in one single place. So many changes and so many challenges conquered. The one place where I learned, and still am learning, who I am and who I want to be. Without my home, who would I be? Certainly not who I am today. People dont realize that your home has so much impact on you and your life. A house is built with walls and beams; a home is built with love and dreams.
