Mission Control: the Kodiak has arrived!

Mission personnel gather to welcome and dedicate Kodiak airplane in Pontianak

From the Palmers ( further details below this synopsis) Darryl returned from Indonesia after a month with the Taliabo churches. Kodiak airplane arrives in Asia-Pacific. Kyla leaves in 3 weeks for a month in Asia-Pacific to help lead a seminar, and advise two missionary teams on their literacy campaigns. NTM leadership makes a decision regarding a future role for us in AsiaPacific. Now the details.
After years of vision, planning, prayers, assembling, obstacles, red tape.and did I say prayers?! the Kodiak, a plane designed for the unique requirements of missionary aviationis now in Asia Pacific. Praise the Lord! We are going to make a big push in 2013 to see the completion of the Taliabu airstrip

so that we can once again have plane service to the Taliabo ministries there. Pray for the final funds needed to cut trees at both ends of the strip, equip the Taliabo for the final leveling process, and buy mowers for upkeep. We are estimating $1,500 more to get closure on this 6 year-long project. Darryl returned from his summer trip to Asia Pacific with a mixed bag of experiences. Perhaps one of the most difficult experiences of serving the Lord is to see the spiritual failure of one whom we have mentored for years. Such was the case of one of the Taliabo church leaders. Unrepentant after several, patient attempts over the last three years to win back our brother, the issue was brought before the church and the brother did finally step down. Now the good news! The next day at the mens fellowship meeting Darryl was amazed as 10 men volunteered to fill in for the leadership gap at that Taliabo church! Then, the following day Darryl was blessed by his first-ever visit to Wahe, a group of previously unreached Taliabo that many of you have prayed about for the past 5 years. But now there are over 40 baptized believers there among the 80+ adults who have heard the Gospel! Again, praise God! But the monsoon-whipped helicopter ride into the northern coastal village was off the charts, so again we are looking forward to that safer fixed-wing Kodiak plane for future flights! Pray for these young believers who communicated to Darryl how HUNGRY they are for further teaching from Gods Word.

Kyla leaves in less than 3 weeks for her annual consultant time with missionary teams in Asia-Pacific, which will include a consultant training workshop. Part of Kylas vision as field consultant is to train others in literacy techniquespassing the baton! She will also facilitate those who are developing literacy campaigns among the people groups they serve. This particular visit will involve working closely with the missionary teams serving the Tugutil and Arimtap people groups. Pray for Kylas international travel to Asia-Pacific and inter-island travel. Pray that God will be enable her to impart knowledge from her past experience in literacy to those whom she trains and assists.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven (Eccl. 3:1)
The reason we delayed sending this update is to confer with both NTM leadership here in the USA and also in Asia-Pacific regarding the possibility of our returning to Asia-Pacific and the Taliabo work for a longer stretch. Youll remember our work permits /visas were rejected by the government there almost 2 years ago. While over there this past summer Darryl began to identify what visa options we might

have, and upon returning to the States he began to dialogue with NTM USA Mobilization leaders about the possibility of taking a sabbatical from Darryls stateside NTM representative duties for 4-6 months. We feel this longer commitment to Asia-Pacific makes better sense economically for you-- our ministry partners, and most importantly: allows Darryl to have longer quality time on the island for the Bible translation project. We can also have more productive discipleship time with some of the young men there who are developing into future Taliabo evangelists and church leaders. And finally, Kyla will be incountry to help multiple teams with literacy development rather than travelling back and forth to the field. The plan now is to leave in January 2013. not far from now! Please be praying for Gods provision for this big step as we estimate well need $5,000-5,500 for visas, international airfare, supplies, and air transportation into the tribe. Our support has dropped to 68% of what NTM recommends, so the costs of this lengthy trip overseas brings us to His throne of grace so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in this need. (Hebrews 4:16)
