Tim Harris:
Born in 1986 with Down Syndrome, Tim moved to Roswell, New Mexico to attend Eastern New Mexico University in 2004. Tim earned certificates in Food Service and in Office Skills and worked at a variety of local restaurants. As entrepreneurs, the Harris family was looking for a way for Tim to succeed just like his brothers. After observing the effect Tim had on Red Robin restaurant and its customers, an idea emerged regarding Tim owning his own restaurant. In May of 2010, a lease was signed for a facility in Albuquerque and thus the beginning of Tims Place.

6th Annual Inclusion Conference Focusing on Inclusive Employment Options

Mitch Morgan:

Mitch Morgan is responsible for leading and managing day-today operations of Fifth Third Banks Project SEARCH program. He coordinates all aspects of the Program from recruiting to advising to marketing. Project SEARCH is a one year, high school transition program that provides training and education that may lead to employment for individuals with disabilities.

The Arc Community Advocates Inclusion Conference

Each Fall, The Arc Community Advocates hosts an Inclusion Conference. The goal of the conference is to empower, connect, educate, and support all people in our community by creating awareness, identifying common ground, and building capacity to support current and new needs while engaging, partnering, and supporting individuals with disabilities. This years conference will focus on employment for individuals with disabilities. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2011 only 20.8% of individuals with disabilities were actively participating in the workforce through active employment or receiving unemployment benefits while seeking employment compared with 69.5% of individuals with no disability. The conference will include sessions to help individuals with disabilities gain skills for employment, overcome barriers to employment, understand how to appropriately disclose and other employment topics. There will also be sessions for employers to learn how diversity improves the workforce, learn about accessibility/accommodations and hear from businesses that are currently employing individuals with disabilities.
