AN INTRODUCTION TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE


Course Description This training will give the participants an understanding of the scope of violence against women in intimate relationships and the effects on the survivor, perpetrator and children of abused women. Some of the topics addressed in this training include the dynamics of domestic violence, why she stays, why he does it / power and control, effects on children and helping the battered woman. This training benefits all staff working with women, families and children. Presenters Jessica Woolbright has been the Childrens Program Coordinator at St. Marthas Hall, shelter for abused women and their children, since 2002. Jessica is a licensed clinical social worker and has been working with abused women and their children for over 15 years. She has served on the board of directors of the St. Louis Council on Child Abuse and Neglect; as co-chair of Children Affected by Violence; as committee member for the St. Louis County Collaboration to Address Domestic Violence and Child Maltreatment; member of Missouri Childrens Division Family Support Team for Domestic Violence Intervention and clinical supervisor for RAVEN (Rape and Violence End Now).Jessica has been qualified as an Expert Witness in the prosecution of domestic violence cases in several Missouri circuit courts.

Michelle Schiller-Baker has been the Executive Director of St. Marthas Hall since its founding in1983. She has a bachelors degree in political science. She has served on the board of directors of the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence; steering committee member for the St. Louis County Collaboration to Address Domestic Violence and Child Maltreatment; member of St. Louis County Family and Domestic Violence Council; and the St. Louis County Committee for the Center for Abused Women. Michelle has been qualified as an Expert Witness in the prosecution of domestic violence cases in several Missouri circuit courts.
