Calvary connection
Bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to the people of Kenora.

A Word from Pastor John

The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life." Galatians 6:8

Church Events
Sunday, September 9 Teen Challenge. Saturday, September 29 Mens Meeting at 9am. Sunday, October 14 Tammy Junghans our missionary to the University of Manitoba Sunday, October 21 "Couples Night Out. Cost: $10 per couple.

Last week Charlotte and I were travelling in farm country as we went to Kids Camp at Manhattan Beach Retreat Centre. We got to see many pieces of farm equipment doing their job of harvesting whatever the farmer had planted. This reminds me of Galatians 6:8. Paul gives us an important farming principal to keep in mind which is that whatever we sow into our life, we will reap. If I plant carrots, I cannot be surprised that carrots will be ready to be harvested. The challenge for all us is to ensure that we are sowing or planting the proper things in our lives that will allow us to reap the blessings of God in the future. The following I would argue are some of the important things that we as Christians need to sow into our lives: 1) Going to church; 2) Reading our Bible;

3) Active prayer life; 4) Listening to the Holy Spirit's leading for your life; 5) Tithing to your local church; 6) Plugging into one of our ministries and becoming an active part of the church family; 7) Speaking words of Life to those you come in contact with; 8) Sharing Jesus with those around you who do not know him; 9) Being intentional in cutting out things in your life that will hinder you from doing the first 8 points I mentioned. Rom 6:22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. This fall my challenge for all of is to grow in the Lord, go deeper in Him and become more like Jesus.

Celebrating Gods Goodness

Lord, you have made me happy by what you have done; I will sing for joy about what your hands have done. Lord, you have done such great things! Psalms 92:4-5

Proverbs 22:17

A merry heart does good like medicine

With the summer wrapping up and embracing the fall, it is good to look back and thank God for what has happened in July and August. Our church family fellowship on Saturday July 28th at Norman Beach was a hit! A great time was had by all and many said that we needed to do it again. On July 29th we had Kai Shields dedication. What a joyous occasion as we were able to commit Kai to the Lord and pray blessings on him and his parents. On August 18th we had our first ever Kids Clothing Swapping Party. This was a great opportunity for our church to connect with young families in our community. On August 20-24 was our Vacation Bible School. Again we brought in Devoted Ministries, who did an awesome job. We had new children coming every day and the kids had a blast. This years attendance showed a substantial jump from last year and we praise God for it. On the evening of August 24th we had a Community Fun Fest to wrap up our VBS week. The kids had a great time jumping in the bouncy castle, having their faces painted and making awesome animal balloons. We had a great number of our church members and visitors from our community. Good fellowship, great fun and lots of yummy food. On August 25th we had our First Ladies Tea at the historical Matter Walls house in Keewatin. We had a charming morning enjoying our tea, scones and great conversations as we planned the new season of our Womens ministry. August 28-29 we had our Kids Club/Surge Youth table during the Mass registration at the Recreation Centre. In 2 days we had easily more than a dozen kids and youth registering for our programs. Please keep these new kids in prayers! This summers Sunday messages emphasised on Breakthroughs and moving forward in God, we look forward to seeing what God is going to do this fall in the lives of the Calvary Church family. We believe it is harvest time and we are rejoicing on Gods faithfulness to us!

Couples Night Out has the simple but effective vision to engage couples in our community in an evening of fun, faith and fellowship. The humour, ministry and personal reflections of the speaker will inspire couples to live, love and bless each other as God originally designed.
