September 7, 2012 St. Regina Dear Families: Short week short blue letter. First off, thanks for the 90% attendance on Wednesday Nights BACK-TO-SCHOOL Night. It is going to be a great year! 1. Blue Letter This weekly missive serves two purposes: a. Educational, cultural and theological narrative to give us some common ideas to think about, talk about, meditate upon and to form us as a true community of learners students, parents, siblings, friends and faculty alike. b. Announcements, mostly school related, but some community events which our families might find helpful, enjoyable and interesting. 2. Blue Envelope The weekly (except before holidays) communication packet is the principal tool for communicating between school and home, and vice versa. It will contain the Blue Letter as well as flyers, school forms, and often teacher notes to families. We have instructed the students that notes addressed to parents (especially progress reports or financial info) are addressed to parents, thus should only be opened by parents. You are welcome to, in turn, use it as a simple way to send notes, tuition, or other items back to the school, weekly. 3. Direct Mail Letter several times per year we send out our fundraising letters to help keep an ongoing level of support to the school from hundreds of long-time friends of the school, as well as many new friends. Especially good for these letters are grandparents, friends and relatives who do not have regular contact with the school. These letters, each itself, and more fully in aggregate, share the story of St. Augustine Academy so others can become a satellite part of our community. They can then join us as prayer benefactors and/or financial supporters we need all we can get, of both! We are just sending our first of the year this week, so please feel free to stop in and pick some up to send to your relatives and friends, or maybe a nice neighbor who would love to support our school if they knew about it Maybe you can use it for your child in conjunction with their trying to get jog-a-thon pledges. Lets build the list together! [You can also call the office any time and ask that any number of letters you would like to be put in your blue envelope.] 4. Next week a NORMAL full week. It is good to be back in the swing of the routine. Blessings,

Headmaster Michael J. Van Hecke, M.Ed.
