TRAVELLING ALONE GOOD OR BAD? Many people think that traveling alone may be bored and dangerous, especially when they encounter the unexpected things which need someones help. But in fact, its very interesting. You are trying to do your own things, traveling on your own time, making it on your steam, all that sort of things. How better to do it, than to

travel on your own? If you dont want to speak to another soul, thats your business. Its your trip, after all. But when you travel alone, it also can become easier to meet locals and other travelers. You see, theres nothing to inhabit you but yourself, and other people may be more likely to come to you, because a person on their own isnt as frightening as a group or even a couple of people. However, sometime you may want to meet up with someone else and bum around together for a while; being alone also lets you see things at your peace, and theres also a lot to be said for not having to deal with anyones behaviour but your own. To sum up, traveling alone brings you a lot of advantages but remember to prepare carefully before taking a trip alone because you will have to solve all the problems on your own. Warm-up activity 1. GIVING UP EASILY

Life is full of setbacks1, but some people dont see them for what they really are: Temporary, not permanent, hindrances2. What happens to you when the gains you made in an area-be it losing weight, mastering a sport or hobby, succeeding on the job either stagnate or reverse? Do you usually just give up? Do you feel discouraged and angry? How much of a perfectionist are you? Do you think that anything that cant be done perfectly shouldnt be done at all? Dont be someone who lets setbacks invalidate all your previous efforts and keep you from making ongoing attempts to change your life. Dont use them as an excuse to give up. Dont give in to the little failures- theyll just turn into big ones. Keep your focus on the progress you be prepared to experience setbacks, to acknowledge them, then to move on. Part of this realistic. For instance, that it one night you slip up and eat a piece of cake, youre not going to weigh three pounds more the next day. Setbacks can be depressing, but dont use the disappointment youre feeling as a justification for overeating and for going exercise. Successful people have an ability to roll with the punches, a skill youre going to need master if you too hope to succeed. Some people come by the skill naturally, but others have to develop it, and you can do that by focusing on the truth: setbacks are bumps in the road; they are not the end of the road. A new study suggests that the more teenagers watch television, the more likely they are to develop depression as young adult. What makes people happier: money or having happy friend and neighbors? Researches from Harvard University and the University of California, San Dieogo, have found an answer as part of a study. Nicholas Christakis and James Fowler based the study on the emotional health of almost five thousand people. They used information gathered over a period of twenty years, until two thousand three, in the Framingham Heart Study. That study began sixty years ago in Framingham, Massachusetts, to learn more about the risks of heart attack and stroke. The new study found that friends of happy people had a greater chance of being happy themselves. And the smaller the physical distance between friends, the larger the effect they had on each others happiness.

For example, a person was percent more likely to feel happy if a friend living within one and a half kilometers was also happy. Having a happy neighbor who lived next door increased an individuals chance of being happy by thirty-four percent. The effects of friends happiness lasted for up to a year. QUESTIONS: 1.
